I just returned from a road trip to Texas. My nephew has 30 acres and a small home in Brenham. They have some trees that they don't like much called we-sache (I don't know how to spell it but that's what it sounds like). Can anyone tell me the real name of the tree & any other info about it? Is it any good for turning? Thanks: Joe S. P.S. I appreciate the great Texas hospitality I recieved!!

It is Huisache also known as sweet acacia.

Depends on the part you got, it can have really interesting color and figure. Check this thread http://www.penturners.org/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=13215&SearchTerms=huisache

This is from a rarely big tree (about 20" dia at base) that had to be bulldozed on a construction site. Pity but I am glad I managed to salvage it. There were more but I cannot get all of it (covered with other trash from old building they also demolished.

Most are not like these too...this part is close to the root ball. I traded a nice piece for NIP and I gave a friend another... I hope he turns it into a bowl. [:D]
