Welp, finally getting ready for my last move. Retiring from the Navy in 23 days and moving from Groton, CT to Richland, WA to start my new job.

Had to finish tearing the shop down. Got the table saw rails off. Spent the last few days cleaning machine tops and waxing them so they don't rust in transit, etc.

Now I'm bored because I can't use any of my tools and make stuff LOL.

Wish I could take part in some of the exchanges going on right now but with the address changing, not a good idea. I had a blast with the secret santa last december. I will definitely be joining in some exchanges once we buy our new home and I get set up again.

All my best to you. Moving the shop is harder than moving the house. Hope you get nestled in record time.
I am with Rob, use the lost shop time to plan projects, learn new techniques or whatever. Never know so much that you can't learn something new. I spent the last couple of months just looking around and now have 4 projects in the works at the same time. That sort of sounds like a bad thing but for me it is not, if I don't feel like working on one thing I usually find something in another project that does interest me.
I am hoping a pretty nifty blank idea comes out of all this. long way from complete on that one though.

Moving the shop can be a painful experience, do as Rob & Daniel suggested in your down time.

Congratulations on the move, the Washington State is a beautiful place to move to. Check out the Pacific Northwest Pen Turners Association (pnpta.org) It is made up of several IAP members located in the pacific northwest.

Hey Randy!

Congratulations on the retirement and the new job! Also on the move, change of scenery, and the chance to clean and tune all your shop machines!

We could help liven things up, if you're interested? We could test your new address by having everybody who's willing, send you a couple of pen blanks in the mail! I have a couple of spare ones I'd be willing to part with! And since there aren't all that many trees where you're moving to, this might get you stocked up for a while. That is, unless you WANT to turn grapevine or steelhead, or something like that! ;-)

Congratulations! I hope this is a good move for you.

Scott.

Thanks guys. Always hated moving but at least this is the last time. Finally putting down roots.

Wife and I each have our own conditions for the house. She wants a good sized kitchen, I want a good sized shop. Anything else is gravy LOL.

And I'm always looking for new and interesting blanks to turn. Haven't had a lot of money to spend on blanks. Mostly been getting grab bags and rolling the dice.

Would love to do some trading when I finally get settled!

Randy

congrats on the retirement and good luck with the move. if your driving and you wander through Northern CA; let us know. and as was mentioned, there is a ton of stuff here to read and re-read plus the entire internet.

Funny ---Margie wanted indoor plumbing and a shop----all I wanted was a Big shop
We spent 6 months hunting for it----hope you folks are as happy as we are.

I've moved 18 times over the years and now that I am retired my next move will to a box. Finally have a decent sized shop and I'm not moving again. Good luck with the move and the new job.

Thanks all. It's kinda of depressing at the moment, going out to the garage, and seeing...

A van???

Although wife is happy she can actually use the garage for a little while...
