I moved to Tampa about 9 months ago and was wondering if there are many penturners here. I would be interested in joining a chapter or just getting together with a few peoples that like to turn pens and sit in hot garages. I live in the Carrollwood area if that is any help.

I am in St Pete. There are quite a few turners in the area...some pen turners...I think everyone learns pens but a lot do not stick with them too long.
There are several local AAW clubs in the area. Tri County is up in Lutz. Suncoast Woodturners (www.suncoastwoodturners.com I do the website) meets at the Clearwater Woodcraft (last night in fact). Also Florida West Coast Woodturners meets in Largo on the 1st Thursday of the month.

I would not be opposed to getting a IAP chapter setup in the Bay Area...
I would be interested as well. Not sure I got what it takes to go to fort myers though. Clearwater or St. Pete would be fine. I wouldn't mind having some people over to my house for hamburgers on the grill and a cigar and some heavy drinking and powertool playing. (just kidding about the last part).

Peter I am in Pinellas park just south of clear water, Rich- sailing away is in Tampa and Bruce is up north in Hudson area and I have met a number of other pen turners at local shows so there are a number of us in the area

I'm in Tampa as well. A local IAP chapter sounds like a great idea.
Ft Myers is about an hour and a half+/- south of you depending on fast you drive.
If someone could help with the planning I would be more than willing to host a get together at my house (im in the carrollwood area of tampa) and furnish some hamburgers and dogs on the grill, beer and softdrinks one Saturday or Sunday afternoon. My oldest son and his family are coming to visit August 10th through 18th so it would have to be sometime after that, but I think it would be fun.
How about august 28th, let me know with this post and if there is enough interest I will start a thread about it.
Someone could bring some baked beans and some potato salad, we could grill some burgers and have a gay ole time.
