Well about a month and a half ago my Bosch Table saw died. With a lot of peoples help and a 5 week wait for parts I was finally able to repair it (for now)
It started out with a bearing freezing up which caused the motor housing to melt and the armature to become un balanced which killed the carbon brushes yada yada yada
So after replacing both bearings, the armature, the field, the carbon brushes oh and the motor housing which is actually the entire motor assembly it now works! Amazing!
I would not recommend a Bosch 4000 or as it is now called 4100.
I used it less than two years before it died. Not cool.
As I waited for the parts I read a lot of threads on different sites and there were many unhappy customers with the same problem.
Anyone know of a good quality table saw in the middle price range? I am kind of expecting
this to happen in another 2 years!

Thanks for the advice! I've been looking at table saws for bout a month now (been lookingat a Hitachi), but dad says he found a great one. Anyway, congrats on the repair!

You can not beat the old 50-70's craftsman table saws that you can find on craigslist for about $100-200.Most have a 1-1/2 HP motor and everything is real steel.Just a thought with some work you can take rusty cast to nice new metal.Good Luck,Victor

You might want to invest in some higher quality bearings and prevent this from happening again.

I have the older Craftsman contractor with the cast extensions and love it. The only thing I dont like is the stamped steal frame and no wheels to move it around....Ill have to work on that!!

Sawstops are cool my buddy has one but they are pricey.Soon the lawyers that own sawstop will have the system on every saw that is sold(invest in that company in the future).I do love my artisan powermatic contractors saw, that is until I find a nice used cabinet at auction for the right price(will most likely be a 3 phase as they go cheap).Victor

Surprise

I got one of those when I was sent the wrong saw....I was after mitre saw and they sent me a 4000-09. Rather than have me spend $150 to send it back they sold it to me for a really low price and I promptly sold it to a neighbor who still has it....he loves it. Of course he ended up getting it for less than $300 brand new.

Since you may have some time, I would keep a watch on Craigs List for a used Delta Unisaw. My neighbor recently bought one for $500 with all of the attachments. Ask any cabinet maker or ship builder, these saws really can't be beat and the older ones really were built to last a lifetime.

I have a Ryobi BT3100 that I tweeked. It is an ok saw for light work, but my next saw will be the Delta with a Beisemier fence and table extensions.

For what it's worth, every Bosch product that I have owned has been inferior.

One thing that is for sure is that if yours lasts for two years, every model that is available new now will have been "upgraded" to something different. Otherwise how would they justify raising the prices? There have been a couple of "good cheap tablesaw" threads lately. Bottom line is if you want quality, cheap, invest some time looking at craigslist and get on the mailing list of a few local auction houses. If you wait till you gotta have it right now for cheap, you can bet you are not going to get quality.

Like they say, there are three ways to get something, fast, cheap, and right. You can pick any two.

I agree about the craftsman! My brother-in-law has my dads old, and I mean old table saw and it still it working great! It has to be at least 40 years old. My first table saw I got about 10 years ago was the cheapest I could find and it still works. I took it out of the attic while waiting for the parts. I won't bother fixing the Bosch again. My husband wanted me to get a Saw Stop but I didn't want to spend that much. They are also quite large and my space is limited.
Thanks for all the comments. The heck of it is when I got the Bosch I thought I was getting a good saw that would last!

PS Where would I get better bearings?
Also, If something good did come out of this, it is that I learned how the motor worked!

I cast my vote for the Grizzly....had it 5 yrs now and for the price difference between it and a Delta, there is no comparison in my book

I romise if you ever have a misshap like i had, the outcome definately outcosts the Sawstop! I wished I would have bought one when I looked into them before I got my thumb in my table saw. I'm sitting at about $4000 in medical bills, that would have been a sawstop plus some $$.

I do agree with you! It wasn't only the money. The space just did not allow a saw of that size. The Bosch (seemed) to be the best saw I could get to fit in my shop.I would have been better off just using my old cheap one.
I am hoping that when the time comes that I need a new saw, Saw Stop will have come up with a smaller size.
