One of the reasons I love making pens is getting to know the person who the pen is for and then designing something with them they really love. It makes for a great experience for them as they use their pen.

This pen in particular kind of hit me right in the feels. One of our friends moved about 50 miles from here and no longer sees her grandfather each week like she used to. The two of them decided to start writing letters to each other each week to keep in touch. "Grampy" is not a young man and an Army vet so she wanted to get him something special with that in mind. Her family likes to shoot so a bolt action pen was the option that seemed to make the most sense and we paired that with a wonderful JohnU flag blank and the rifle case. She shared photos with me of him opening his gift and I think he was really touched.

This pen is finished with GluBoost and all parts are from Exotic Blanks.

That's a beautiful pen. My son's best friend came back from Afghanistan on leave during Christmas several years back and I gave made him an Emperor flag kit pen to thank him for his service. Donny was in the army for 8 years and several tours in Afghanistan. He got out with several honors including a Purple Heart and Silver Star. Two months after getting out he died in a car accident. Very sad. At his funeral his mom set up a table with all of Donny's cherished pictures and keepsakes. The pen I made him was front and center. It brought tears to my eyes. His mom told me it was one of his most sacred keepsakes. Sometimes the pens we make for people mean more than what we know.
