I just got back from the Dr's office after getting X-Rays and thought I would give everyone an update. He told me the X-Rays were looking good, everything was staying in position, but he did not see much new bone-growth in the fused areas and wants the cast to stay on for at least 4 more weeks. He will then take another set of X-Rays and evaluate as to when the cast will come off, and, if it comes off then, let me know when I can start using my hand again.

So 4 more weeks of this and then maybe it will come off.

To me that means 4 more weeks before I can do much of anything in my shop. I did ask about turning on the lathe, and he said if I could tie my hand behind my back and turn with one-hand then go for it.LOML gave me looks that said VOLUMES and none of the looks even hinted at OK or yes, so, if I don't want the other hand messed up, no shop work for me.

Someday, I keep telling myself, someday

Rob - In place is good. No housework or yardwork is good. Sometimes no shop work is the price we have to pay. Hopefully the next 4 weeks will show some dramatic bone growth!

Rob, those 4 weeks will go by soon enough. The hand will be there for ever, so take care of it. While you're waiting, you might be able to Google or You Tube a man that does some beautiful turnings. bowls. vessels, etc & uses only one hand. Has no use with the other. I can't remember which hand is bum but I kinda think it was his right. Somehow he does with that one hand what lots of wish we could with two. Just kid the wife & tell her you're going to take a few lessons & go back to work one handed. Oh--one more thing--ya might find a soft cushion for the dog house.:D

Richard, you sound like a man with experience in the dog-house! :D:D
I don't think the soft cushion for the dog-house would be enough! She has already threatened to "fix" [}:)];) the other hand.

Rob

Just cool your jets, Rob. Four weeks will fly by. Why not use the time to build up a little credit with the wifey? Helping her around the house doing one handed jobs, maybe picking blueberries with her? The kinda stuff that will get her wishing that the four weeks was already up. A little debit-credit. Know what I mean? ;);)

Rob,

Take your time and let it heal properly. It will be worth the wait. But,we do EXPECT great things after it is all healed up.:D:DHope you are back to it soon my friend.

Some of us have spent way too much time in the doghouse... I've been there so many times that when I meet somebody, I can't remember whether to shake hands or sniff butts! :D

Rob, I am glad it is going well. As others said 4 weeks in the house is nothing compared to the lifetime in the doghouse.

Kelly sends her well wishes too. Also said we need to see you guys at her next follow up in Sept.

Tom and Kelly, we are really looking forward to seeing y'all in September.

Cav, she said hand, but it sounds like you know my wife! SHe could mean "other" things for sure. She is 5'-1" tall and dynamite does come in small packages. I have the bruises to show.

Al, I tried what you said and cooked up some moussaka for her last Sunday to give her a break. She asked me not to do that anymore, as she had to help me peel, chop, slice, dice, and such and then had to clean-up afterwards. Claimed I dirtied every bowl and pan in the kitchen. She did like the dish very much, but said whe would cook it from now on. :D:D

Rich, when we get a chance to meet, a hand shake will be quite enough. I don't think you would enjoy the other smell very much.;)

Rod, If I could ride my Harley right now, things would be great!

To all of the others, thanks for the encouragement.
