Is there anyone who is familiar or has done buisness with Lee Tree Woodworks out of GA. The burl caps and pen and turning blanks he has on site look interesting. I have talked to him by phone and he was helpfull but does anyone else have any more information?

Thanks

I have purchased from him several times, both burl caps and turning blanks. I have been pretty happy with my purchases. The burl caps were everything I expected and, in some cases, more. Here's one I turned:

The pen blanks were all of good quality, and some were exceptional such as this Yorrel Burl:

and this Vasticola (pardon the picture quality)

My only disappointment was a batch of bottle stopper blanks. He sells these in "assorted" batches of 10. The wood I got was decent quality, but it turned out they were all the same (Coolibah burl) wood based on what he had available at the time. Not a big deal, certainly.

I'll likely do business with them again.

Actually it is not so much the price but the quality of what you get. Some of the wood that I have received from the BIG exotic dealers are of less quality that what the guys on here give as freebies when you order from them. I am not being specific with Lee Tree as I have no experience with them. The only problem with the folks on here is you do not always see what you want listed. There are a few folks on here that have exotics in stock all the time, they just don't swamp you with ads on here.

Post a message of what you are looking for and I am sure you will get several people tell you what they have. Then ask around about quality. Also talk to Nolan. If he has it cut you might get it shipped this week. If he has to cut it then wait as I promise it will be the best you can find.

This business is under new Management and ownership. I have done a fair amount of business with Lee Tannenbaum, the former owner, and had great experiences. I have not yet dealt with the new owner, so I can't add anything of value about the current operation.

I've bought from the company before and after the new management with no major hassles. Some of their stuff is really top notch, but their ordering system is such that some of the stuff I wanted was already sold but not marked as so. The quality of the wood I got has been really good. The small pieces for cutting up go pretty quick, though.

Sorry for the delay but I want to thank all who responded. I have talked to ther new owner by phone and may do some buisness with him at some time. Right now I fairly new to all this and I have a lot of questions at times. A friend of mine asked for 6 sets of pen-pencil and letter opener combinations, I got those done and someone else saw one of my pens and wanmts a pen pencil set for his father. I am having fun and thanks to all you

As far as I know Bill B. is still the shurest thing in quality wood. if there are other suppliers out there with like quality please let me know. I don't spend a lot of time looking at other suppliers so am not that certain of myself.
I do know that Bill has always sent me blanks that are outstanding. and he still throws in the freedie.

I bought quite a bit from Lee in Florida prior to selling to the new owner. It turns out that the new owner/location is now about a mile from my house here in Decatur, GA. I have been by and met him and spent some time browsing through his stock. I picked up some pen blanks, stopper blanks and burl caps. All good looking stuff. The new owner seems to be a nice guy. Its nice being able to just drop by when you need something special.

This assumes we know what we want....sometimes I like to browse. (guess that's what the SOYP forum is for, right [:D] )
