This weekend, as I tried to open the jaws of my SuperNova chuck, it became very difficult to turn the T-driver. I locked the drive, and worked much WD-40 and light oil into all the jaws and various other openings, and eventually got it moving freely again. But I suspect wood dust and debris have worked their way into the gears inside. (BTW, thankfully I remembered to run the lathe at high RPM with the chuck lightly covered with a rag; otherwise there would have been a roostertail of oil and WD-40 all over the shop.)
To dissassembe this chuck, there is a heavy split ring on the back, around the mounting shaft. It can get it off, but before I do, have any of you taken one of these things apart? I'm envisioning a gazillion little springs and gears leaping out as I lift the back off, and never getting it back together.
Thanks for any advice...
