I got a new lathe with a different spindle size so I bought a different insert for my nova chuck. Try as I might, I can not get the old insert out of the chuck. Any tips? I can't remember back when I first put it in, but does it thread in the opposite direction? Not that it matters much as I tried to turn the insert out both ways without a budge.

There is an allen screw that locks the spindle in place, if you used it when you put the original adapter in place you need to loosen it to remove the adapter...

Well, I thought you had it Tom. I ran down to the shop to take the set screw out and it aint there. Must have fallen out or I never used it. I've soaked this thing with liquid wrench, put in the vise and I still can't make it budge.

John sounds like Oneway's got it figured out. I've got too many sets of jaws to switch now though.

If it's not a mechanical problem of some sort, heat may be your best option if you have a torch or know someone that does. Torches are the best wrenches, they loosen everything.

Okay, I am huffing and puffing as I type this. Finally got it out with lot's of muscle. Put the new one in WITH THE SET SCREW. I opened the box it came in and lo and behold there is the set screw I should have put in the first time. Thanks everyone.
