I have a little 8 Oz Polyester resin fiberglass repair kit that i have no use for. I have considered turning it into blanks to kinda experiment, but it has this styrene molomer stuff in it. will that kill me if i turn it??

Polyester resins contain styrene as a thinning agent.

From the MSDS on Styrene:

The substance is toxic to the nervous system, upper respiratory tract.
Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage.

Other than that we cast and turn PR that contains Styrene in it all the time, I haven't noticed an extra limb growing yet. I also use an exhaust fan over my casting area.

i've been pouring resin for pen blanks for almost two years.....and there's <twitch> nothing wrong <witch><scream> me yet!

besides, i LOVE the smell of PR in the......heck...all day!

Oh you silly people and your fear of toxic fumes! IF you can't take the toxins stay out of the casting biz... or buy Alumil-K E R A C K...

Alumilite is just as toxic as PR. Just because the smell isn't obvious, doesn't mean it's safe. I noticed the MSDS has been changed on their site, but it still shows it's toxic.

Yes, I know Alumilite has toxic fumes. I was making a funny as most users have posted over the years about how, since it doesn't smell, they can cast it in their kitchen, living room or while in bed with their spouse sleeping next to them.

If you notice in many, many, many of my posts I mention refering to MSDS's. I do that with all my casting. I also read all the labels and the instructions that come with my chemicals. Everyone else should as well. If they did we wouldn't have nearly the continued propagation of chemical mythology as we do in casting.

yes sir, i learned just by posting this question. you better believe i will be reading some MSDS's in the very near future. As well as hooking up some fresh air ventilation.
