I don't know if this is the right place to post this.but.
I placed an order with Steebar last September 23 because of a great sale they were having on the slimline pens in brushed finishes.Minimum order 50 kits to get the "good" price.A few days later they hit the credit card for payment, I saw this on line with my credit card co. To date nothing in the mail from them.I have called to no avail,e-mailed them--no answer, faxed them...no answer. I'm out of options! Am I alone or are others having a similar problem with them? I don't know what my options are,HELP please.

First and foremost it is illegal to bill a credit card unless the product is being shipped. In other words lets say I have a customer order $75 worth of merchandise and one item is on back order that is $5 of that total. By law I can only charge the $70 for the mechandise that I ship and then will need to charge the $5 when the back order is in and is shipped. If I charge the full $75 and the customer complains to their credit card company, I could loose my merchant account.

I know that little bit of information does not really help you but if enough people that get hit like this from this company and they complain to their credit card company it may help to shut them down. So what you need to do at this point is contact your charge company and explain that you were charged $XXX for merchandise that was never shipped and you are unable to contact them via phone or internet.

I have only seen complaints about this company never anything good. Take your business to http://www.woodnwhimsies.com . Prices are better considering you get your products and the service is top rate. Same PSI kits.

Ron: Steebar is a company to be avoided!!! The type of thing you mention has happened many times before. If you do a search here you will find the thread that details my unhappy experience with them. It took me several months to get things fully resolved. One question..... Concerning your phone call, were you unable to get through to a real person or did you get through bit just not get a resolution?? I'll bet I talked to the owner a dozen times before he finally fixed the problem and he lied to me a couple of times in the process. If you tough it out, you should be able to get your money back; but it will be a long and frustrating journey.

One thing that may help is that I have an unlisted 800 phone number for them so you won't have to spend your own money on phone calls. I'm tight on time right now so will look up the number in my files and post it later.

Sorry you are having this problem; but I am not surprised.

Good luck!!

Getting your money back should be neither long, nor frustrating.

File a request with your credit card company. I do it on-line, it takes five minutes. Then let Steebar deal with the credit card company.

Call your credit card company, the number on the back of the card and tell them that you did not receive your merchandise and you want them to credit your account. The bank should freeze this charge untill it can get straightened out. Don't know if it will work for you, but it has for me in the past.
Good Luck

Call the credit card company - explain to them that the items were charged over a month ago and never shipped. Ask them to do a stop-payment on it - just like a cheque! Seriously - call them!

If you used Visa, I know that all Visa purchases are insured, so you don't have to pay for items you did not receive. They are also like bullhounds, so they will aggressively pursue the matter! I'm sure other card companies do the same thing, but I know that Visa is very good!

So get your money back, and make sure that you take your business to a reputable dealer. I just started ordering from Woodnwhimisies, and their service and prices are both top notch!

Sorry for getting off topic, but I've never heard this before. Even PSI doesn't follow this. They charge me for the full order and send a slip saying what is back-ordered. (I'm sure they'd credit it if I called and canceled that portion, though)

As to the topic, you're getting good advice. Call your CC company and let them deal with it. If he ignores them, suddenly his visa machine won't work.

Thanks for all of the good advise. I called the credit card company and got the process rolling to put a stop on the charges.A lesson learned.I trust people to be honest. How can you stay in business otherwise?
Thanks.

I have never heard any good about these people!! This is not the first time they have done this. But I have seen full page ads from them, e.g. in the last AAW magazine!
THIS COMPANY MUST BE AVOIDED!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I ordered a few pen blanks a couple of months ago and the order arrived very quickly. I thought that was great so I gave them some more business, but this time the order never arrived, my emails were never answered, and i couldn't get through to anyone on the phone. Guess the credit card route is the next step.

For future reference,in case anyone runs into similar problems, the 800 phone number is 1-800-653-1930. It seems to be hooked up to a fax machine before 10 AM and after 4 PM otherwise, you should be able to get through.

I agree that going back to the CC company is the way to go if you can't work out a quick and reasonable resolution. Sadly, I used a debit card for my transaction and the rules are different for them. Won't make that mistake again.

The rules are no different on a fraudulent charge. If they take your money and do not attempt to deliver the merchandise, how are they any different that someone coming into a store taking what they want and not paying? It is not any different, it is still theft! Personally I would contact the attorney general in their home state as well as the local sheriff's office with copies of your charge (debit or other wise). Another option is to also forward all the information to their hosting company. They provide an outlet for their client to steal from the public thus in a sense are accomplices.

I will be stopping by Steebars office to have a talk with them as soon as I get back. Not only did they short me on kits, the ones I did get were the worst ever. I will be back in 4-5 months.

They made me upset and I don't like to get upset.

Mike,

Is it actually "illegal" or just against the card acceptance agreement that you have to sign for your merchant account? I have always heard it was against the card acceptance agreement but not illegal. I am certainly not questioning you, I honestly do not know, that is why I am asking.

They have a full page ad in the latest issue of Woodturning Design magazine so they're not giving up. The 1-800 # Randy listed is mentioned in their ad. If it hadn't been for the members posting warnings here I would have ordered from them in the past.

edit: Ask here if you're in doubt about a vendor. There will be someone who has experience with them.

There has been no mention of their other site listed below. One and the same owners. WOM (word of mouth) is the best advertising for and against. Take heed venders et al.
