I have never seen a staggered scalloped pen blank like this before. The finished pen at the beginning looks awesome, but, I am not sure if the blank made in teh video would quite achieve the same thing in the end... In any case, this was new to me:

Gabriel Castro does some amazing things.

In addition to his YouTube channel, you can see his work on his website ExoticWoodPen.com

No, the pen at the beginning is not what those blanks make. I think it is just a splash screen he was using at the time.

I am going to try to make a blank like the one in the pen at the beginning. It looks like it would primarily require cuts at different angles. Now there is some precision in how he does the simpler blank, and I suspect its the same with a blank that used different cutting angles, but the way the scallops come out in the end with different angled cuts for the layers is more unique.

Again you are getting into another form of segmenting pen blanks. Scallop work can be done many ways also. he shows his method. There is again tutorials in the library that show various versions. The one blank white, black and aluminum that fell apart was going to be scallops too. When doing scallops on all 4 sides, 2 of the scallops automatically are smaller that the opposite 2. Now here is a different version using a totally different method and I believe I posted this in the library too. This uses alot more material when making but just another look. Welcome to the dark side of segmenting. Many patterns that can be made without lasers.

John, I honestly don't understand the way you respond. "Again you are getting into another form of segmenting pen blanks." & "There is again tutorials in the library that show various versions." This voices disapproval of me and my interests, and further disapproval of where I'm finding knowledge and advice! I honestly don't understand that. Why is that your general tak any time I post something? You seem to disapprove of everything I do, and you are always talking down to me. WTF is up with that, man? Honestly?

You know why I found this? It started playing AUTOMATICALLY, AFTER I watched a video on, you guessed it: Celtic Knots!

Its not like I was actively seeking out "oh god, ANOTHER" frickin style of blank to make!!! It happened to come up, and I thought the pen at the beginning was awesome. I would like to get into it some day! I'm going to try and make a blank like the pen at the beginning. You seem to assume I'm going to do that immediately...you ever stop to think, perhaps, I was thinking "in the future"? Why the hell do you have to come down on me for that, though? Huh? What is it with your perpetual disapproval of me? Seriously? You also disapprove of my photography. You've made that extremely clear! You disapprove of my choice of sellers platform as well, as far as I can tell. WHAT IS YOUR DEAL?

Man Jon you are reading something into this that is totally not true. You just posted about the Celtic Knot and thought you were focused on that. All I did was mention this is another form of segmenting. I mentioned there are various tutorials in the library incase you want to check them out. I am not sure how much segmenting you ever did or followed. You have been here long enough and figured if I mentioned about the library you would not get upset but I guess I was wrong. There are many more types of segmenting that you may find interesting too and am sure there are videos out there as well. But again there are also tutorials in the library such as the 360 degree herringbone blanks. I commented on Chads version of the Celtic Knot and tried giving you pointers as to what not to do or for you to try to do because Chad showed you his way which is not the only way. I went back to that thread also and do not see anything that was demeaning in any way.

As for the photography thing, again where and why would I object to that info. I have mentioned many times here I would like to step up my picture taking. You took the time to explain your methods and what props and things you use. if you got pissed because I mentioned I thought your photo with the leaves was too busy and it hid your pens, that is my opinion and I should be able to state that. Not everything is perfect.

Have to say I am not going to apologize because I did nothing wrong. Maybe you took my words as something I am not sure but I can not control that. I went back over my posts to your threads and saw nothing I would not say again. I thought I was helping but guess not. I will refrain from posting to any of your threads from now on.

Man I did not see this post coming. WOW!

You have a blind spot here, John. Read your words from my perspective. You don't treat other people on these forums like this. Last night, you were ON MY CASE about white backgrounds, persistently. After we settled that, you moved on to blasting Etsy as too hard for new sellers. You have a tendency to COUNTER everything I say, and you make it seem like I've chosen the wrong thing...like with Etsy being too hard for new sellers. FWIW, I've been selling there for a couple of years now. I know the changes they have made, I'm involved in the seller community, I've bitched to Etsy about their OVERUSE of AI (which has definitely caused problems there.) I don't need you to tell me here on IAP what's wrong with Etsy. I'm intimiately aware...and I honestly don't even know why it matters to you what platform I use... 🤷‍♂️

I posted that photography thread for you, primarily. Because you asked for it. Then you made a fuss about backgrounds needing to be white, noted your distaste in the use of props, and even did so in more than one thread. I put a lot of time and effort into that post. I expended that time and effort because you asked... Then, well, you had to tell me that the only acceptable background was a white background, note that you didn't like props multiple times, etc. Yes, you have a right to your opinion, but there is more going on here than that... There has been for years.

Look at your posts to me, from my perspective here. I've tried for years now, to have amicable interactions with you, but last night, really, was kind of the final straw for me. I honestly don't understand why you went off on the tangents you did. It was like you were desperate to find something to put me down on...when the white background thing didn't work out, you move on to Etsy or the props... Now its what segmenting I'm merely showing interest in? Read your post in this thread, pull yourself out of your own shoes, and put mine on. "Again..." "There is again..." Do you not see how those words, when they are a repetitive pattern stretches back years now, come off as condescending? Or even annoyed, like "why are you looking at some different kind of segmenting?? I thought you were doing celtic knots???!" That's how it comes off!

I actually read all three of the articles that had the word "Celtic" that were in the resources library here. I could only find three... Maybe there is another term for "Celtic Knot" that I am unaware of, but I was only able to find three, and two were about jigs (which is fine, I'll get there soon enough.) The one that actually discussed the segmenting, only seemed to do two inserts, even though it claimed to be a full knot. So, I kind of felt like I was left hanging? But, why is it so important that I "again" use the library here? Why is the library here supposedly better than resources elsewhere? Why would you even say something like "There is again tutorials in the library"? Comes off like "Why would you bother looking anywhere else?"

I mean, you could have just said "Hey, here is a GREAT article in the library that has excellent information for a beginner scallop segmenter: [link]." That would have been great... But no...you take the condescending tak, almost every time. Do you even realize that?

Jon enough. Do me a favor and put me on your ignore list. The Etsy thing you pissed me off read your posts. Do whatever you want Jon. This is not good for the sight. You could have did it in a PM. I put you on my ignore list so I do not inadvertently post to any of your threads. I wish you all the best of luck in whatever you want to try. Maybe some other people can help you because clearly I can not. I am sorry I do not speak your language. Also wish you well with your health problems . I believe you posted a few of them recently. Take care.

No, I caught you making blatant falsehoods, and it's not the first time. If the only way you can respond is condescendingly, then ignoring me will be for the best.

Ok everyone - let's all take a deep breath. Before posting again, I suggest taking a step back for an hour or two, and looking up something random...i.e., the history of Scythian grain imports into Athens during the time of Phillip of Macedon - that'll cool everyone's jets, and it'll lead you toward some really interesting geopolitical discourses by Herodotus and Strabo! Win-win! :)
