Stablized vs Non stablized?

I am needing some Buckeye burl blanks.

What is the difference between stabilized and non stabilized?

does it really matter if it is stabilized or not when making a pen?

I have some Buckeye Burl----
It has to be the softest/lightest wood on the planet.
You will stablize it somehow----most of us just get the thin CA out and give the blank a bath.
