I have lots of wood that has been in the dry for as much as 6 years- from 4 inches to 18 inches in diameter. What are guidelines for stabilizing wood? When to stabilize or not? I have never stabilized wood for turning...so far. Your help is appreciated.

What kind of wood is it? If the wood is solid, it most likely does not need stabilizing. If it is an oily wood, it will not stabilize well. If it is a soft or punky wood, they you will need to dry it to 0 moisture content before you stabilize.
For more info, check out Curtis' web site.

None of those should need stabilizing unless they are soft and punky. The OO is a hard wood to begin with and may not absorb any CJ at all.
