Just starting to look at stabilizing. Trying to make my wife happy by not spending more money on more equipment. Has any one tried stabilizing using a Food Saver unit?

Never tried but I have a food saver I use regularly in the kitchen and I doubt it would work to achieve the vacuum you need. When I stabilize I run my vacuum for 30-90 minish solid before all of the air is removed. My thinking is it has to run or you stop removing air. That said the food saver gets hot and stops working after 4 packs of porkchops so I dont think it is up to task w/ stabilizing.

i have a full size food saver vacuum as well as a little hand held. i use it frequently to stabilize with. i do not use bags though. i use the jars or bowls with the snap on lids and the vacuum set up. will hold a vacuum for days after pulling down. i have used it on some of my Vulcan wood which is just like powder without it and turns pretty nice after. works fine for me but i do not do any quantity of stabilizing yet.
