If I were to use a block of buckeye burl as a stand for a desk pen set, would it be recommended that it be stabilized?
If so, I assume it would be stabilized prior to sanding and finishing.
And lastly, who would be able to stabilize a block roughly 6" x 6" x 2" ?

Thanks,
Bill

Bill, Yes you should always stabilize wood you are going to turn if the hardness is not know, it is too late to do after it blows up on the lathe.

I can handle that size; you would pay for shipping both ways. One week to complete the process, depending on moister count, it must be dried to 10percent or less before stabilizing.
