I don't think it's possible to stabilize fordite since it's dried paint and doesn't have pours to soak up the resin. I have a few pieces I haven't turned yet so I can't really give you any advice on what to do to make it easier.

Do you mean "stabilized" or "cast in resin"? (They are two different things.)

As JohnU said, you cannot stabilize Fordite, it doesn't have a cellular structure and there is no water to replace with resin.

I tied to stabilize a piece of Cadillac Ranch fordite a while back and it did not go well. While the Cadillac Ranch stuff is much softer because it is sun cured spray paint as opposed to factory baked auto paint the stabilizing resin cannot permeate the material for either to do its job.

Best advice for fordite it to round it off and much as possible on a belt sander and go slow with light cuts with a negative rake cutter. I've only had one blow out in the last year and a half after switching to a negative rake cutter for fordite. For me the key is to listen very closely and stop and thin CA spots that may start to come loose as you are turning.
