There was some discussion in the MVV section in Lou's post on Herritance®. I realized that I was breaking one of the classifieds rules by polluting his thread so I decided to start a new thread here for those who may be interested.

If you want to use special symbols such as Ö, Æ, or © in your posts or other writing, there is an easy way to do so. All of these can be accomplished with ALT codes. If you know the ALT code, then all you have to do is hold down the ALT key and type the numeric code on your keypad that is on the right side of your keyboard. YOU CAN NOT USE THE NUMBERS ON THE TOP OF THE KEYBOARD!

Example:
ALT 0169 gives you ©
ALT 0174 gives you ®
ALT 0176 gives you °
ALT 0190give you ¾

You can find a list of ALT codes and more information here: http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/international/accents/codealt.html

You can also find a character map on most, if not all, windoze machines. On my XP computer, it is found by going to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>character map. You can find the character you are looking for on the character map and either copy and paste is or look on the bottom right and you will see the ALT code!

Thanks Curtis. Put it into the favorites list. I lost so many of my favorites list when my old computer died. I am backing everything up now.

© Ah...so I'm a moron. I was using the upper keypad numbers. Thanks Curtis. Thanks for moving us here too...you are right..whether we agree or not on the subject at hand, of which we all have rights to our opinions, the classifieds is not the right place to discuss it.

And for your Mac guys:

Alt (Option) g: ©
Alt R: ®
Alt/Shift8: °
I have been using the degree sign (°) for umpteen years!

System Prefs/International/Character pallet: ½ ⅓ ⅔ ¼ ¾ ⅕ ⅖ ⅗ ⅘ ⅙ ⅚ ⅛ ⅜ ⅝ ⅞ ⅟
一二三四五六八九十⌘

There are other ways to access the Character Pallet, one from the Menu bar.

Under System Tools there is an application called Character Map. Paste a shortcut to this on your desktop and you have instant access to all characters in all font sets including those mentioned above as well as wing dings, ding bats, etc.
