Hello everyone,

The title says it all - thank goodness for spare tubes. Yesterday I started making an Antique Brass Cigar kit from Dawn and Ed at Exotic Blanks using some Claro Walnut that I just cut up from a block I bought at WoodCraft from their Bargain Bin. I've never turned Claro before and unfortunately, I overturned both blanks on one end, so this morning I poked around in my stash of spare stuff and found a bag of spare Cigar tubes also from Exotic Blanks. I suppose I could have turned them down to the tube, cleaned things up, and re-glued, but having spare tubes was 1000% easier.

I am much happier with how my re-work turned out. Pictures follow. Since LSU won the 2023 Mens College World Series last night, college baseball is done for the season, so I can get back to making pens. I will post the finished and assembled pen later on today.

Regards,
Dave

PS I highly recommend buying a set of spare tubes along with your kits!

I agree. Spare tube are always a good thing. I build a lot of blanks for myself and friends. If they are for someone else I don't have a kit short a tube. Also I'm cheap. When I have an opportunity I'll still turn off scrap material and save the old tube. I have also run across a few times when I needed to build up a tube to use less resin. If the resin is too thick on the tube it won't magnify the image to the surface and the blank will look glassy. Therefore IMHO it's never hurts to have spare parts.
