I need input from you guys.

I stumbled into a business opportunity than can help others save (on a commodity we all constantly consume anyway). It also offers income opportunity to those who may be interested. It is geographically restrictive so it is not for everyone.

The question. Is it poor taste to send PM's (or email) to members whom I feel may benefit and/or may be interested?

Honestly, I feel borderline about doing this because I will basically exploit the geographic info our members provided. However, I intend to only send one time and not follow up unless I am contacted back. Like a post you can choose to ignore it or check it out.

FYI, I am born a skeptic and definitely not salesman but I am confident about this that I am putting my name (and reputation if I have any ) on the line.

Any thoughts?

You could always make a post inviting members to contact you if they are interested. If it is indeed geographically restricted, you could always say something like "I think I'm on to something that will do "this" and do "that", all while lowering greenhouse gasses and making us a buck or two. If anybody here is from Lower Armpit, WB*, is interested in hearing more, please shoot me a PM."

Cheers!

Gary,

If this is allowable (how I wish)...it sure will make my life a lot easier. But I really don't want to SPAM everyone (posting about it may be viewed as SPAM).

the best person to ask is Jeff.

I did send him and Curtis a PM about this thread.

Thanks.

Dario - I don't think anyone would be offended by a PM coming from you, however, it sets a precedent I don't think we want to set. If you do it, then either we have to let anyone do it, or approve requests to do so on a case-by-case basis. Neither of which is an attractive option to me.

The AUP says: "Advertisements to buy, sell, or swap belong in the Individual Classifieds Forum or the Business Classifieds Forum." I understand that it does not specifically say PM solicitations are not permitted, but that's how I'll interpret it to answer your question.

So, I think the best option would be to post something in the classifieds.

Hope that helps, and thanks for asking!

Jeff,

Thank you but I am not too sure about posting it at the classifieds because of this:

"Penturning items only: You may post items for sale which are directly or closely related to pen turning, such as pen blanks, kits, tools, lathes, jigs, fixtures, etc. Moderators will delete ads for inappropriate items."

At any rate...I will compose something and send it to you via PM for your review before I do anything.

Gary's idea is starting to grow on me though.

Thanks again!

Personally, I would consider it spam. I receive TONS of e-mail messages a day from people trying to sell me something when I have not asked for that information. It takes up lots of time for me to wade through to try to figure out what is good and what is not. As a result, I have had to reduce my spam tolerance in my spam filters which causes me to inadvertenly miss some messages I wanted to receive. Having it come to my PM box would be no different. I receive quite a number of e-mails from companies in the building industry which is applicable to what I do but I still consider them spam. If a company sends me an unsolicited message, I tend to immediately delete it, add that address to my blocked sender list, and stay away from doing business with that company.

This is all just my opinion and not to be taken as the official IAP position!

Dario, on a serious note, please send me your info. :)

On a not so serious, hope you take this lightly, couldn't pass it up, note;
I have been wanting a tri-state distributorship for

You may have just done all you needed to do, add me to your list if you think it applies to me, prolly not as not much applies to Nebraska.

Johnny, would Tennessee be included in your tri state distributorship?? Bufford" Walking Tall" Pusser seems to have missed a few stills in my area :drink:

Thanks for all the replies!

I will heed Jeff and Curtis' advise and not send out unsolicited PM's. I do intend to post something similar to what Gary mentioned and see who might contact me.

To those who sent PM's, the show of support mattered a lot. I will respond to all of them as soon as can. I have to set up a few thing before I can do so but will start this weekend.

Thanks again!

Ken,
I live at the base of Harlan Mountain, one of the more prominent likker manufacturing areas in my neighborhood.... but likker is getting less profitable and most of the distillers are switching to meth.

Dario,

I am not much of a salesman, but you piqued my interest. Since it is coming from you, I feel confident that it is on the up and up. As long as you do not submit my information to the vendor unless I request it, please send me the info.

Thanks William.

Other than asking you guys to watch a video presentation...I won't do anything unless you ask me to. I will send that to you as soon as I am ready.

Note that the ones who will benefit most on this are those in Texas, New York and Illinois (but expanding).

That said, the opportunity is open to every American who knows anyone in these 3 States (TX, NY & IL)

Thanks.

Dario,

I'm curious and, although I won't be able to participate, I'd like to watch the video.

I like learning new things, and never miss a chance to mock someone, so it's a win-win for me ;)

Cheers!

Gary

Ah, to spam or not to spam--that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of male enhancement commercials or to take up arms and delete them.

Spam me, I'll just add it to the stack that is already there!!

DELETE them? Hell, I write them all back and send blank cheques. I mean, if anything can help me..... ;)

Cheers!

Gary

P.S. That used to be my answering machine message: "To answer, or not to answer: That is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outraged friends, or to take arms against a sea of callers and by answering, end them."
