This may be old news for many but may be new news for some...
In my most recent simple segmented blanks I used aluminum from a blue Budweiser Light can that is shaped like a bottle. As I'm trying to show in the picture, it's maybe twice as thick as the aluminum in a regular soda can. It is certainly more sturdy to handle but it stills cuts with scissors and turns well with sharp tools. It definitely has a more prominent look than aluminum from a soda can but isn't overpowering (IMHO). So if you haven't tried it, this may be something you want to check out.
