A year or so ago, I asked Jeff to start a forum that we named Member In Need. There were those on the Admin Team that were not sure that it was a good idea. I listened, but I chose not to heed their counsel.

Although I am proud of what the Member In Need forum has accomplished with the incredible support of you, the members of the IAP, I have to agree that it may not have been the best approach to the problem of helping others.

I have received several PM's requesting that we consider fund raisers for various members. The requests were mostly based on job loss and medical issues. As I read the fora daily, I am struck by the number of members who have lost their jobs, the spouses who have lost their jobs, and also those members in the situation of both spouses being unemployed. How do we, as the IAP, support all of these needs? Remarkably, not one single person has asked for a MIN fund raiser for themselves. I think this is a mark of the kind of people we have here in that they ask for help for others rather than request personal help.

The fact is that we cannot ask the members of the IAP to help all who are in need since there is just too many who are stressed in the present economy. Accordingly, I have requested that Jeff close the Member In Need forum. Thank you one and all for your support.

I am surprised to see this topic has had NO comments.

While Cav knows my opinion, I think it is good to thank him for the "Members in Need" forum and for the work he put into it. Of course, this is ALSO to THANK all the members who contributed when asked.

Perhaps no one wants to "chance" stepping over the line to political speech. So, I will stay out of that area, as well.

I think we SHOULD all know that no member has asked for help for THEMSELVES. Cav has had inquiries BY members FOR other members. We are a group of pretty resilient individuals. Hopefully, we can strengthen each other's ability to make pen-turning a "profit-generating activity" that can improve everyone's financial condition.

Good luck to all of us and thanks Cav for a very well-intentioned effort!

Thanks Cav. I was just about to post in that forum to request you fix my wisdom tooth that seems to have broke and kinda hurts.
But really...I avoided that room. I understand why you did it and why you shouldn't have. It's too easy to see the two sides of that door. You made the right decision to close it. It's best if someone needs help, maybe we help and maybe not, but not be pressured that we have to do so, or just to see it sometimes and yet not be able to help makes you feel bad too.
I had nothing to do with the opening or closing of the room people!
Thanks Cav for all the great work you do.

Cap the wisdom tooth, or just pull them out?

Sorry it has to end William but I can understand why.........

Thanks for your time and energy while this part of the forum was active.

Thanks to all the members who donated generously. This forum really has a great bunch of people in it.

Cav, I'm glad we had that forum when we did, it really helped some members that were really in the most dire of conditions, it was a pleasure to help, and I appreciate the need for closing it now, We do have one helluva great family, some how folks that need help still will get it, even with out asking.

Cav,

I think there is more going on behind the scenes, i.e. in PM than meets the eyes on this forum. I myself personally prefer to get involved behind scenes and have my name to stay out of the conversation. (Got that from my Dad.) Having said (written) that, I realize that "behind the scenes" is not always the most efficient way to help others.

You did what was right at the time. Now may be a good time to close the forum as you see it, but doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea at the time it started.

Now about that root canal . . .
