Ok here it is! I am just starting out, and have about $3,000 in retail inventory, and need to increase that to $10,000 to $30,000 over the next year, currently I am booking shows in the $50 to $250 range, and most of these shows are one to three months out, having $1,000 tied up for three months in advance is hard to do! Currently I have $2,600 tied up in fees for shows over the next 3 months and need to expend another $1,800 in fees at least for November and December, not to mention about $1,200 in parts inventory before October.

Now here is my dilemma, I have inventory I need to sell, so I need to attend shows, that requires money, that would come from sales of the inventory I have, but I have to do shows to sell the inventory, to make the money to pay for the shows that sell the inventory I have to sell to buy more parts for more inventory to sell at the shows to pay for the shows.....

It is the Classic Dang if I do Dang if I don't catch 22

As my dear old Daddy used to say "If you you want to make money you have to spend money" He also said "You can't sell out of an empty wagon".
Not that I'm old enough to remember horse drawn wagon merchants.

Twas more of an observation of the Addiction I am dealing with, seems to be changing into this addiction I have had for 37 years of my life.... same one that causes me to rise at 5 am and ride a bus for an hour, sit reading the forums for 7 out of 8 hours because the weather is so perfect today, 80f with a dewpoint of 54, then ride said bus home again and turn a few more pens before bed.

Yes I am BORED at work....

Make me an offer I can't refuse on your current inventory and I'll buy you out.
That way you have money to pay for the next couple of shows[:D]
I will then add all OF yours to my inventory and sell all of it at the next couple of shows and spend it on more shows, kits and of course WOOD!!

i'm with you. I just dropped more than $1000 on kits/bushings/tubes, hoping to build enough inventory to make a respectable show...I am jumping on that merry go round with you, so I do understand!

ROFLMAO, Albert, I have paid for all of my shows up through October, my main problem is why do promoters make almost all of the "due" dates in March and August?

Just so you are ready ---the more you sell the worse it gets and you are always going to be behind. If you are real lucky there will be no chance of ever catching up. And lets not forget the new better pen that you need to get made.

Gary you are so right, and your forgetting that one piece of wood you need from E-bay that everybody and their uncle wants too, just to fit that new and improved pen kit, not to mention the .... you need[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][:D]

March ??? Three of my shows have to be in BEFORE January of I'mm out of luck !! Only a very few people ever get rich on the "circuit" but as long as it stays fun and I have paid my bills and a couple for the house then I'm happy. New tools every year and all paid for and always looking for the next thing I can't live without!!

I have to say it is and will remain fun as long as I can people watch, some people need to be on "what not to wear" and the last show I was at the town had to Dye the fountain to keep people from bathing in it, it was blue water, yep bright blue water, reminded us and most of the customers of one thing(was the topic of conversation started by the customers)......

Ok now wait just a minute....you mean we are actually supposed to sell these things?

I guess my wife and I need to sit down and talk since out of the 5 pens/pencils I have made so far she has given away 4. The only one we still have is in my pocket at work.

It seems every time I turn around a friend or relative looks at the latest one I gave her and next thing I know I am out in the garage because she has nothing to write with.

Well one of these days when I get better I will probably be able to sell them but for now.....

That's a easy one---send the wife out to buy kits.
She will be the first to come up with price tags----of course we all started off by giving away our pens which doesn't not last very long.
Now that I think about it--heck I still give away pens??????

LOL Jim
I think there is an epidemic of family pen snatching going on. with a wife and two daughters I can't make anything smaller than a baron and hold onto it. If I ever start selling pens my inventory will be all large pens. Tracy, wish you luck, getting established in any new endeavor is costly in so many ways. Its healthy to rant once in a while, It does not accomplish anything but you feel so much better afterwards[:)]
