I was turning a Cigar, upper barrel (using BCB method), and switched the bushings.:( Dumb-a_ _. There's little that can be done. Just a home brew blank, not worth going to a lot of trouble to try to save it.

Just thought some of the newbs would get a kick out of it,,,,,,,,and some of you vets too. We all still make mistakes. Just move on and put it behind me.

I did the same thing happened to me. I was turning on the mandrel though. Nice lignum vitae piece. Didn't notice it until I put it together.[V] I put it behind me already.:D

Very easy to mess up with the Cigar. I recently did a batch of 20 for an order, and while I managed to keep my bushes in order due to having them marked, I did manage to swap barrels on one them.

Stuff like that never happens to me. You're probably wondering why somebody like me never makes dumb mistakes. Well, to be honest with you, it comes down to superior intellect, advanced craftsmanship, highly disciplined organizational skills, and the inability to recognize one's own faults. ;);)

But, I do have this very close friend who, when assembling his first rollerball couldn't figure out why it wouldn't write. Who would have thought that rollerball refills came with a plastic cover to protect the writing tip?? The guys at Berea got a big laugh out of my . . . I mean "my close friend's" . . . phone call. [:0]:D

They say a picture is worth a thousand words... and because I am suffering from CRS[:I] - really severe case [:I]- I start all pens with the instructions open and check the pictures to make sure I have the right bushings... even if I'm doing the same pen 2 or 3 times in a row... I've been known to get the bushing on a slimline in the wrong order [:I][)][)]:D:D

I like Doc, have a friend that did this, and after the 2nd or 3rd time I,...er I mean my friend did this, I took the bushings and marked them with colors, and then took a printed copy of the bushing arrangements, and put the colors for each section on the instructions. Those are posted now next to my...I mean his lathe with a magnet, and when he goes to turn them,it is right there in my,...er his face.

I would thank you for your post and ones similar to it. Because of them, I remember to check my Cigar bushings before I turn them. Don't get me wrong, I still make mistakes. Like trying to assemble it wrong and having to knock it apart because I got the upper and lower barrel mixed up.[xx(]:D

After doing this little mistake once, and cursing more than once, [:I] I took my Dremel tool and cut 1 to 4 lines on the butt end of the bushings in the order I use them. Taking a moment to look for the lines prevents this error.

Who would have thought!!! [:0][:0]:D

Surely you jest?:D

Nice to know I'm not the only one who gets them backwards. I did it on the last one I made, and I even checked them several times before I turned it.:(

No Dale, I screwed the pooch on this one. Fixed it though. Returned a new blank and it turned out beautiful. Of course, I had to hide where the lower bushing was mixed up as well. Just found that little error tonight. But it all turned out in the end. I'll put in a couple of shots at the end of this.

Doc, you sound like Spock. And don't we all have trouble recognizing our own faults?

Cav, that's a great idea with the lines. I'm afraid the color coding thing would get sanded off fairly fast.

Here's the shots I mentioned.

By the way, this is the Cigar from my post titled "WW Purple Cigar in Rhodium,,,"

You are supposed to be sanding the blanks not the bushings....LOL...

After doing that a few times, I put the paint on the ends where it wouldn't get sanded off.
