Part FAQ, mostly just hints and tips collected from other users of the
ResinSaver molds.

Feel free to add to it if you want.. it's sort of a work in progress. And
if you have photos, that's even better. I have a hard time taking pics and
holding the mold at the same time.

Charlie,
One thing I did was to build a box frame out of 1/8in plywood. I had trouble with the air leaking out of the tube around the plug that went into the tube. I pushed a small piece of a tounge depressor between the mold and frame to push in on the mold, and that eliminated any air bubbles.

They are lots quicker, and it takes just under 1 1/2 oz of PR to do the double cavity for me.

Very informative and fun to read:biggrin:

You mentioned 'conditioning' the silicon......will this be a neccessary step to do after a bunch of castings? How many castings have you got from any mold before it deteriorated (sp?)

and finally....are the molds available in nicer colours than the pukey baby blue?

Great job NL

Mine work a treat and have been used many times already successfully. I haven't used lables yet, but done plenty of tubes covered with glitter, shell, sawdust, resin scraps etc as well as turning failures

Thanks everyone .. and if you have more hints, then by all means share them. I came
up with a basic idea and the rest came from users. One of the first was to
GET RID OF THE PUKEY BABY BLUE. That was the very early molds.

They're now pukey baby purple

The conditioning issue was told to me by people who make the silicone.
I haven't had any deteriorate yet with the purple, but I think El Mostro did.
But he could tell you better. He puts his molds through the paces..

Bob . .I've used a mold box for larger molds to hold them in place when
weight is an issue, but haven't used them yet for the ResinSavers. I wonder
if you've got a small void on the bottom of one of the stoppers? I sometimes
get those from air getting trapped in the undercut. But a dab of silicone
fills it right in. I check for this before I ship, but they'll sometimes make
it past me. I'll fix them if it is an issue.

I'm glad they're being used  Anyone got pictures?

My Comments:
- Pukey baby purple is much better than pukey baby blue...purple even smells better (kind of sweet smell)

- First set I got (pukey baby blue) I got well over 100 casts each...never used mold release then one week within a couple of days the alumilite started sticking to all the molds and chunks of the mold started getting stuck to the cast...I then bought and applied mold release and it helped BUT the molds were too far gone to fix...SO...I ordered some more (have to keep Charlie in business, besides it was my fauld for not using release).

- The new molds are the pukey purple ones, thay are a lot sturdier and NOW I use mold release for every cast and they are working just fine

- Of all the molds I have used (trust me I have used pretty much anything you can imagine...and I just finished a 3000 blank order, yes, that's three zeros) Charlie's have been the BEST by far to work with.

Thank you Charlie.

I would get 2 slims with or without combo with wall street ll they are both my favorite styles. so that makes 3 orders comeone lets get this 7mm order going. You all know you want one.

I should post another thread to find out. We're looking into tube ID, because
many are different. but thinking about a 7mm mold that will have tubes long
enough to accomodate all of the kits, and after casting they can be cut down
to length. But that would mean finding a source for long tubes.

Otherwise, we'd be looking at one 7mm kit for slimlines, one for twist pens, one
for longwoods, perfume pens, keychain pens, dart kits etc. etc. That would
be prohibitively expensive to get ready for.

If we cast all the same length and then cut to fit, one mold should cover
most of the needs. But it's still in the idea stage for now.

I would buy a slimline mold as I probably make more Streamline/Slimline/Designer Euro kits than most others. Plus it would enable to get more creative with the huge assortment of clips that are available with those kits. Please let me know if you choose to go that route, I am definitely in for one of those...if not two molds.

WOW !!!! I would have been impressed with just a hundred or so:eek:

I know what's going on my Christmas list:biggrin:

Two questions that have come up and I forget to put it in the PDF..

Will the Jr mold work for the Jr Majestic? For the Jr Emperor?
Yes. You might need to trim a little more length from the blank
when you're done, but the tubes will fit.

Will the Full Gent mold work for the Emperor? For the Majestic?
Yes. The tubes are the same diameter, but slightly shorter. That means
you might trim an extra 3/32" of resin when you square the ends.
