I donated two pens to a local private school charity auction. The auction was tonight. They tore down their gym and they gave me some of the wood from the basketball court to use for the pens I made a European pen and a Gentelman's pen. I don't have photos, but they looked good. They were plain oak with a CA finish. Anways, the Gentelman's pen sold for $250.00, I was shocked. The European sold for $750.00, I was floored. I have always thought that sentimental value is way higher than any other type of value. But, dang I never expected them to go for that. Kind of makes you feel good. This is the first time I've done anything like this.

That's great, Les! Like you said, it was a charity auction for a school. You just forgot to take into account what the pens were made from. People will spend big bucks on charity events for private schools and even more if there is sentimental value attached.[;)]

[:0] Congrats ! [:0] and nice sell for the charity [:)]
If I had my AR, Aug and 2 .45's stapped to me, I couldn't get $750.00 for a Euro [:D]

Wow!!!! Wish you had some pics! I would like to see what sold for that much! Congrats! A couple of years ago, I made some pens out of oak that was removed after a remodel at work. Made pens for my coworkers out of the wood. Very rewarding to do that. Kirk[8D]

The person collecting the donations called today and asked if I could make more of the European pens. I told her that I could. She told me that they were going to do a fundraiser selling the pens made from the wood. She said she had allready taken some orders and would like to know what it would cost for me to make them. I told her $40.00 per pen. She said she had 5 pen orders and one pen/pencil set order. So, things are looking good right now.

I didn't take pictures because to me it was just plain jane wood. Nothing fancy. I'll take photos of the next ones so I can at least put them on my website.

I was told it was oak, but I sort of thought it might be maple by the way it smelled. I'm no pro at identifying wood, but after what kent4him said I'd bet it was maple.

Thanks for all the replies.
