I received a huge meal with all of my favorites, a big smile, and a wonderful hug and kiss from LOML. What more could a man really need? I already have everything I need (notice I said need, not want), a beautiful, loving, faithful, wife and companion, a good job, a mortgage free house, his and her vehicles, also paid for, and a 30' x 40' shop, and a great bunch of friends on the IAP!!! :D;)

A hug from my son who also said thank you for never turning your back on me and if I had listened more to what you said, I wouldn't have made so many mistakes. If I live to be 100, I don't think he'll ever top that. I did remind him that I didn't listen to my father and when he has children, they won't listen either.

I received a Home Depot "Home Improvement Hero" gift card.[:p] Hey, Robert check the alignment on your pen press as mine was not quite right when I got it.

A perfect Father's Day, :) Won some money on the golf course this morning [:p]
Took a nice nap, had a big pasta dinner with my whole family, another nap ;)
My boys got me a new assult rifle case and extra magazines ( you never can have enough mags) [8D]
The only down side was seeing Tiger tie my man Rocco on the last hole at the US Open. [V]
I hope Rocco can bring his game tomorrow and win the Open.
Now for some pie and one more nap :D Wake up and see the Celtics beat the Lakers.

Had my youngest Son and family up from Texas for the weekend, had good eats all meals and spent as much time as possible with my grand kids. The kicker was right before they left an envelope was handed to both Diane and myself with Tickets to the Neil Diamond concert here in Ok. for Oct( Diane and I met when she came into Sears in 1972 to by Neil Diamond Gold 8 track and I was the manager of the dept.) along with gift Certificates to CSUSA, I had tears in my eyes.

My four babes each made me several beautiful cards on construction paper. I got a balloon too and we had fun blowing it up and letting it fly around the living room. Also got a nice blue polo shirt from old navy.

A very nice start to a very nice day.

For me , it's the LITTLE things that have the most value . I spent some time with my son , 2 daughters , 5 grand-daughters and 2 great-granddaughters . Just never enough time , but what a wonderful day !!:)

Hi all,

A pretty good Father's Day weekend here too. Yesterday my daughter and three youngest sons (ages 15, 17 and 22) came and spent the day along with their mother. We worked in the yard and had some food. My daughter brought me a DVD of Weird Al Yankovic's "VHF". ("What better way to say I love you than with the gift of a spatula")

The weekend before my oldest son came with his family and we spent the afternoon visiting and playing with my 5 year old grandson. And checking out the new speakers they brought me for our home theater room.

All in all two great weekends.

Let's see I woke up at 2:15 after a few hours sleep (I'm on the night shift) didn't feel well. Sat down in my chair only to be hit in the face by 2 flying cards from my 2 year old yelling dadda day. Nice cards from the kids. I also received from all of them a belt and disc sander. My oldest daughter cleaned out my truck. Didn't get to see them much since I have to leave at 4:00 to get to work. Will be here till 4:30 a.m. and do it all again tomorrow. All and all they know I love them and I know they love me so it's a good day even though I still don't feel well.

I kinda got Dave all his stuff a couple months early....the lathe and the table saw and tools and all the goodies.....but he woke with a crick in his neck yesturday, so I got him a pillowtop mattress set so he can sleep good from now on...so he won't be too tired to turn pens....LOL!! (As if that will ever happen)

You are the most wonderful husband and dad in the world Dave...and I love you more than air to breath.

Happy Father's Day~

Well as my lovely wife Dee said above, I got most of my Fathers day stuff early... Thanks sweetie!! Love you too! ....

Don't let her fool you guys, the mattress was REALLY for her!! She's been "hinting" for the last 3 months.. LOL

From my parents, I got a #20 Tony Stewart T-shirt :D .. I'm a BIG NASCAR fan!!!

For my dad, I made him a CS click pen made out of Bocote... sorry, wasn't able to get a pic.. :( He loved it though!

We also got him (them) a sorta gag gift... to make a long story short, they got a new DVD player and the remote is so small I even have a hard time seeing the buttons and he commented when they got it about 3 months ago that they need to make the remote BIGGER for this thing! Well... the wife and I was at HF a few weeks ago and they had this HUMONGOUS universal remote (it's about 5 inches wide and 11 inches long) sooo we got it for them (him)... They about freaked out when they opened that present.. LOL .. He actually said "WOW, I can actually see this WITHOUT my glasses on! THIS IS GREAT!!!" ... They actually had me program it for their TV, DVD and satellite .. It works pretty darn good actually! The wife wants US to get one because we keep losing ours..[:0] and I don't think we could ever lose this one!

I got to grill some burgers and have a beer with a decorated WWII hero. (2 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star)

My daughter hand drew a card, the last line read, "Thanks Dad, I don't know what I would do without you"

It was a good day.

I got to take the whole family on a river float on the frio in the Texas hillcountry. Had a great time then had a great meal in Lovely San Antonio. Got back to Corpus and reality. Monday was spent getting ready for a scheduled "proceedure" today. All is well and I can return to work tomorrow, albiet, a little sore and probably talking a couple of octives higher.

I hate to sound depressing, but it looks like I sorta got forgot. I do have the personal satisfaction of knowing that I made a positive impact in their lives, and helped to define who/what they are, though.

There were a couple hours there at the end of the day that got kind of teary for me, but I'm over it. I remember what it's like to be a teenager and it's easy to get caught up in life.

Harry Chapin wrote a song that I heard years ago for the first time, and it brought me tears then, just like it does now. I do like Ricky Skaggs' version the best of all of the oddball ones that're out there, but the lyrics are all the same. I'm putting them in here just as a short reminder for those of you that might need it. :)

A child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today,
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok."
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed,
Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him."

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."

Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you."
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."

I can relate, Karl. My son (who did not forget and got me the best card ever, plus those scrapers) asked about my Dad. I haven't seen him in 15+ years as he lives in a, what do you call it, oh year, Bottle. I know what that did to me growing up, and told him that it would not happen to my son...his choice between bottle and family. (sounds harsh, everything else had been tried. Good man, terrible disease). Knowing the power of the web, I figured wee could find something, and we did, in the social security death files...two years ago and noone in the family had any idea. It isn't a shock, but it does make something different. Even though I had not seen him forever, I always wondered if he would wander in one day, that wonder is gone. ManyThanks to anyone reading this, you're alot cheaper than a therapist:D. I guess this is a kind of eulogy to him. He had good intentions but bad weaknesses, he was a father, but not a Dad. I have a few memories of him from when I was very young, handpainting a panel van orange, because orange was on sale:D, promises undelivered are the biggest reminders. enough of that crap...on to the advice...

Hug your child every chance you get. I'm lucky, mine is now a 6' 165lb attacker in lacrosse who thinks nothing of pummelling an opponent or hugging his father in public.

Talk to your child about everything and nothing. Spend time in the car discussing 70's Rock and how it influences the bands of today, try and compare Clapton's and Santana's and Hendrick's guitar skills. Let them know that you are more than an authority...a little cool goes a long way for a dad's reputation!

Treasure every moment and tell them you love them often. One of the partner's (60 y.o.) I work for calls his dad every day before lunch just to day hi. every time he gets off the phone, the last thing he says id "I love you, Dad" and you know he means it. That alone shows you a large measure of the man.

Sorry to get all maudlin on y'all and I'm not even drinking!
Thanks to those who read,
Jon
