I just finished skinning a rattlesnake nad was curious how long you can keep a skin before you cast it. I have it saturated with rubbing alchohol and glycerin for right now but it might be a week before i can cast it shouold i leave it covered with the glycerin or put it in a jar or something like that. Thanks ahead of time........Andy

a few questions for ya: ~Did you flesh/skin it really well? You are safe to leave it in the solution as long as you need, but 3-5 days is good enough typically. Also, its not as simple as just pulling it out of the solution and slappin' on a pen tube and casting. So be sure you dont rush into it.

Ive tested a few different ways to get the ca to stick and I think im ready to try it. Ive taken a few small pieces and pressed them between two boards toget all the glycerin off of them, pressed for 8 hrs with lots of paper towel and they have stuck to some test brass tubes just fine. I just dont want to do something that will ruin the skin before its time to try the tricky part. Any tricks on hiding the seem. thanks for the feedback.......Andy , BTW like the quarter blanks i may be ordering some soon.

actually, what I do once I remove the skin from the solution, after rinsing it and drying it between a towel for a few minutes, I wipe on a light layer of just glycerine on the skin side, and basically slap it up against a piece of cedar and let that sit overnite. after about a full 24 hours, I peel the skin off the cedar, and let it hang dry for another day. Then they are good to go! glue em up on the tube and cast.
