I have the skin from a small snake that I would like to cast.

One of the locals here in Atafona peeled the snake for me after I spotted it on the road. It had been run over.

#1 How do I cure it properly?

#2 When casting should I use a long tube and later cut this to length?

Thanx for any suggestions.

Arthur, try PMing Don Ward (its_virgil here on the IAP). He has a very good recipe for curing ( vs tanning) the the hide.

I would not use a long tube and then cut the tube to length. Use your normal kit tubes (I normally paint mine) and cut and glue the hide to them. You can then easily trim off any excess hide with a pair of scissors.

Also some snake species (namely the cobra family), don't always play nice with PR. The skin will turn dark. You may want to test cast a little of your hide first.

Thanks PRP. I will pm Don as suggested.

It's not a member of the cobra family, despite the fact that the generic name for snakes in Brasil is "cobra".

In the sun this little fellow glistened emerald green ad yellow. The green caught my eye.
