I was wondering about the process of drying and preparing snake skins for casting.? Can someone explain it from a freshly dead snake on through the process of properly skinning, drying and applying it to a blank? I come upon some nice snakes (dead ones) from time to time and think about what a nice pen it would make but I have no clue on how to start.

Talk to seamus about tanning snakeskin but here is one way ...... you skin it and have a container with 50% alcohol and 50% glycerin. Let it soak 24 hours. Then remove from solution and spread it on a board and dry it.

With all these snakeskin blanks I'm seeing I get the feeling a lot of these snakes are not dying from natural causes...

Yeah it got me wondering because every since I got interested in maybe trying to cast one I can't seem to find a dead one...lol.

I used to see copperheads on the road at work ALL the time, but since I have started casting snake skin blanks they are few and far between. Although a nice corn snake didn't make it across the road yesterday morning. Everyone I know is on the look out for me.
