I have found a South African distributor of "Smooth-On" casting supplies. www.smooth-on.com

Does anybody use these products and are they any good / comparable to Alumilite??

I looked into Smooth-On when trying to find resin for my cactus blanks. They are competition for Alumilite so they do have some products that are comparable. I ended up going with Alumilite due to the incredible customer service and support. Smooth-On did not even answer my e-mails. If you had a choice, I would go with Alumilite if for no other reason than this and the fact they have a great presence here and support IAP. Sounds like you don't have access to Alumilite though.

There are no Alumilite distributors in South Africa. I am confused as to the correct "Smooth-On" product but guess that their Crystal Clear for castings 1/2" to 3" thick would be ok. There Smooth Cast 320 also seems suitable. Just need to find some nice colours still....

I managed to find a supplier for a pressure pot.....ouch $320 for a 2.5gallon pot with no guage etc....but then this is Africa! :biggrin:

The Smooth-on Color Match series 325-327 is probably your best bet. I'm still experimenting with it.

As for the customer support. Their CS at the corporate level sucks. If you call your most local store/facility they give great support. At least the one in Florida does.
