Got that trip to the dump today, 3 cherry blanks, cracked one open and it has some awesome figure to it!, 3 white birch blanks, an oak crotch that's about 25-30 pounds, and the big catch a large maple crotch w/ a large knot about a half foot down from the crotch, this thing weighs probably in the ballpark of 70-80#s plus! I'll get pics tomorrow so you guys can all drool over them!

the big honking piece of maple, btw what would be the best way to cut a crotch?

You got the right idea of hitting the dumps for good wood that would otherwise be wasted. good luck with the next trip, I hope you find some real treasures.
I wish you were closer, I'd let you take as much of that stuff as you want. My neighbor has a tree business and he hates the crotches, so he puts them aside for the taking. I've seen some burls at the dump around here, but you aren't allowed to take anything out of them.
