ATTENTION: DATE CHANGE-----DATE CHANGE------DATE CHANGE-----DATE CHANGE

Ok everyone, I went by Woodcraft and talked to the activities director, and got us on the calendar for 2010! First of all I want to thank everyone over at Woodcraft for again sponsoring our events. Steve and his bunch are the best!

Due to a schedule conflict, the date for the sixth meeting has been moved up to the March 6th date. We appreciate the facility that Woodcraft supplies and them being flexible with us!!!!!!!

Sixth Chapter meeting will be held on Saturday, March 6th, 2010 from 10am to 4pm at the Roswell Woodcraft.

Please mark this on your new 2010 calendars! We look forward to seeing everyone there!

We would like to have the following for the meeting, so let me know what you think about each one:

Pen Swap

Blank Swap

Steve Busey will demonstrate the Celtic Knot blank and how to create them accurately

I would like another demonstration for the other time slot, so if you think you have an idea, or would like to volunteer to do a demo, please let me know!!!!

I hear a sharpening demo is being requested?

The artist formerly known as SRB will be the late demo!!! Steve, we will be happy to have you as the late demo!!

I have one other person who will trade a blank with me, so any other takers? LOL....Bring one or bring 5 to trade!! If we get a big enough pot, we can all go home with some new stuff.

Obviously, I'm new, and I've never been to a meeting? What must I do to attend?

There is a long and distinguished vetting process.....You just gotta show up! If there were much more in the way of requirements, most of us would not qualify...LOL....

We will be meeting around 10am on the day of the meeting at the Woodcraft in Roswell. If you are interested in participating in the pen swap, or the blank swap, bring a completed pen to be in the pen swap, and bring some unfinished pen blanks for the swap!

We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

From what I understand, the demo guy is not very sharp at all...

Some "specialist" is coming in for the Celtic Knot blank making demo, in the afternoon. I dont have anything for the morning demo yet, but if sharpening is what you want, I might be able to get someone to do that.

If you're taking votes for the early demo, I vote for the sharpening demo. I'd really like to get my tools back in the proper shape for turning pens.

Also looking forward to the celtic knot blank demo.

Since I'm way down in Bama on Lake Martin,if I can get a passport would love to meet other turners. This is new to me but the pen swap and blank swap sounds like fun.I'll even bring some of my WORLD FAMOUS (at least here in RED HILL)Kudzu blanks, however you have to promise not to plant the blanks, wouldn't want anyone else to start growin' kudzu:) Bob Daniel

Hey bob you might want to bring some cash. There are several people that sell pen products at the local chapter meeting. Woodcraft also gives a 10% discount on the day of our local meeting. Hope to see you there... Russell

Hey gang

Just wanted to give a last minute update for the meeting on Saturday!

The first demo will be sharpening turning tools (by a dull guy). I will answer your sharpening questions to the best of my ability, and I am bringing a sharpening rig to show how it is done for most turning tools. If you have a tool that you have been struggling with, bring it, and we may be able to fix it or at least get it sharper than it was when you brought it. Please make sure that you bring your heckling "A" game.

Steve will be doing a demo later in the afternoon for the Celtic knot pen blanks and how you make them. Much more exciting than the morning demo!

As always, we will be talking pens, showing pens, trading blanks, trading pens, making pens, and just about everything else associated with pens!

We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Ok, I cleared it with the Georgia State Patrol, that you get a 24 hour pass. I started to let them know you would be bringing Kudzu across state lines, and they said if they catch you with any Kudzu, they would make you take another 50 pounds back with you....LOL.....

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!!

Thanks to everyone that didnt fall asleep during the sharpening demo! It was great to see everyone. I will get some pictures up in the next few days.

Thanks to Bob for coming over to Georgia and bringing the exotic "Kudzu" blanks!

Great to see everyone today.I had to leave early and missed the demo by Steve, sorry Steve.

As always a special thanks to Robert and Robin for all their work.btw Robert good demo also.

A big thank you to Constant Laubscher for the awesome deals on the great laser blanks. I can hardly wait to turn them.

Well we got our passports stamped and made it back to Bama!!Thanks everyone for a great meeting,w3as nice to see all the outstanding pens.I'm depressed to see how far down the food chain I am with my pens,I'm still in the REDNECK Zone, everyone else is in the Swank Zone,I've either gotta quit the meetings or jack up my clientel quality:)The demos were great!and a lot was learned(course don't know how much will be remembered). Robin, loved your GIRLY pens,I gotta do some of them, see I'm already forgetting stuff, which cigar was you using? The catalogue shows about 3 ,wasn't it the Ultra?and your other the Wall Street? Again many thanks for the invite and chance to meet other pen nuts.I thought Jim and I were the only turners in the South, now we don't feel so lonely.BTW Robert, don't let the Kudzu get too wet,you might wake up to a vine covered cottage! Bob Daniel

OK, I get it. I can read between the lines.:wink::rolleyes::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
OK! Sorry Steve, I would love for you to redo your demo at a later show. I will promise to be there and heckle from the front row!:wink: I do apologise for having to leave early. I needed to get Greg back to the house. I am not feeling well and had to have someone ride along in case I needed him to drive back. See you next time. Russell

Hey it was great meeting and greeting at yesterday's meeting. Nice to be able to put faces with some of the names (and snide remarks) of people on this forum.
I was a lucky participant in the pen swap and came away with this Gran Torino rollerball with black walnut finely crafted by HJulian.
Thanks to him and the presenters of sharpening and celtic knot procedures this, my first, chapter meeting will remain in my memory for a long time.

These are my notes on the Celtic Knot "demo". Might post some pictures later to illustrate some of my techniques. Questions/comments welcome.

I finally got my first successful celtic knot done. I glued the inserts in with wood glue and let it set up an hour between cuts. I also tried swabbing the CA inside the blank before inserting the tube, and it all came out rock solid. The pen is white oak with red oak inserts, several coats of CA on top of it all.
