I just had 1/2 gallon of Silmar go hard in the can. It was about 9 months old. My shop in the garage approaches 100 degrees every day. You may want to store your Silmar in the house.

Yeah I typically keep my silmar in the house and only bring it outside when i need some resin.
 
What about keeping it in a fridge. I have a small fridge in my "Pen Studio" would this be ok to store Simlar41 in or am i better off just keeping it inside at normal temp?

With the price of S41 approaching $200 for 5 gallons with shipping, It is now time to take SWMBO with you to "Good Willies (goodwill) furniture and appliance store". For the meager sum of about $50 you can put a side-by-side refrigerator in your shop. It may or may not preserve the shelf life of your resin....but if it doesn't work, you'll have penty of room for the beverage of your choice to help drown your sorrows.

ON A SERIOUS NOTE, I do have a side by side in my shop. The freezer side holds all the wilds critters I have shot to eat or skin for hide (THAT MUST NO GO INTO THE HOUSE)..snakes...eeeoh!

And on a tip from the PR Princess and others, gallon milk jugs (I use yellow ones, because I'm still not fully convinced that it really is dark when I close the door and uv is a concern) filled completely full of PR. Dawn said use the milk jugs, another friend said to store full jugs in the frig. So far, I've seen no adverse effects (my instructions were to fill the jugs so full that there is no room for condensation) AND there is STILL plenty of room to store glue and "turning fluids:).

SWMBO CAN'T put up a reasonable rebuttal for such a necessary tool as a frige....even if you do live in "upper" Alaska:)

Not even close to respectfully submitted...DUDE, you got a shot at a fridge in the shop....TAKE IT!!!!
 
Good idea on the wine fridge I have one not being used which i can setup in my garage and it costs a lot less money for elec vs a reg sized fridge

What are yellow milk gallon jugs? We have clear jugs up here or hood sells white gallon jugs

My temp is a cool 65 deg in the dead of summer with all that concrete in my cellar so I keep my resin there and i bring it out a gallon at a time into the garage which does get hot

Mayfield Milk comes in yellow, uv blocking containers as does Laura Lynn Milk and a few others.

The yellow is supposed to keep out the uv and retain freshness.

Andy, the yellow milk jug is one of those "Southern" things. You won't find them outside of a hand full of states here in the Southeast. If those outside this area need them, maybe we could set up a marketing and distribution system based over in Eatonton. I could have a big yellow truck at your door next week.:wink: Don't know what your going to do with all that milk though.:wink:

Well here in KY, we have Dean's milk which has a white jug to block the UV. If it was in a yellow jug nobody would buy it:biggrin:
