I just ordered what I thought was my first gallon of Silmar 41 as I have been using Silmar 40 up to now for all my castings. I wanted to give it a try to see what the differences were.

Well, I am embarrassed to say I ordered the wrong stuff. I guess I wasn't paying attention close enough and opened a box of Silmar 249 today.

Has anyone used this? Can it be used? I can return it but it is a $25 mistake if it do. So if it can be used for anything, I may keep it and just try it.

Any input?

Yeah yeah..... I didn't check the PayPal invoice close enough. I talked to them on the phone and told them I wanted S41 but the line was so bad they must have heard S249......

I am over that attention to detail crap! LOL!! Got to relax at some point. At least this one was a non-dangerous slip.....

Yes, Fred, I have used it. We patched broken boats with it. I'll do a quick check, but I think the big difference is that you paid too much, it doesn't shine up quite as well as S41, and DON'T use fiberglass cloth underneath. Other than the cost and shine.... I think you are ok with less money.

Yep... Just what I though! Surfboard resin. Should be easier to de-gas, hard as woodpecker lips, won't yellow until the pen warranty runs out.

Seriously, U.S. Composits is a GREAT company. If it is unopened, they take it back and likely you'll only have to pay HAZ MAT shipping BOTH WAYS. Where you live, you'd be better off talking to the local fiberglass boat shop or surfer dude.

Andy,

I talked to them already. I can return it if I want but shipping both ways costs $24. So, rather than throwing away $24, I will try to use it since I can.....

Fred, I know a guy up your way that makes the BEST molds going. Get one of his molds and make a small pour. If you DON'T like the pen blanks, get some styrofoam and make some boogie boards.

Boogie boards in your area are more profitable than pens!!!! I ain't been WOP surfing in a while!!!!
