This was posted on my local turning club's discussion board today, and certainly defines what not to do - make sure you watch it to the end - and should be used as a demo tutorial for all beginning turner's on how to get seriously injured with a lathe.

sanding with the tool rest, choice of tools, using the sandpaper backwards, terminology and, interestingly, how to part off a mini baseball bat with a hacksaw at 3,250 RPM's. Amazing. While I just hit the tip of the iceberg on what not to do, see how many other things you can identify.

Well by cracky. Let's give the idiot credit for two [2] things he did right. He turned the lathe off TWICE. I'll bet he's still proud of joining the crowd that have made you tube videos. Probably smiles at himself every time he walks past a mirror.

Wow. I was a safer turner than that before I ever had ANY instruction or reading anything about the lathe.
My wife came up behind me and started watching that (heard me laughing) and even she said "That doesn't look right."
I'll bet he's wearing flip flops and no glasses, probably drinkin a bud' too.

I haven't evn turned anything yet, but just the basics that this guy ignored, using common sense, scared me into almost not even turning. tool rest too far from work, angle of using tools, tool rest in place while sanding, hack saw for cut off tool, the list just goes on and on. Wonderhow long this guy will last with all his fingers and hands?

I made a copy of that to show to the kids at the next class. That is one hell of a way to do as much wrong as possible, he even has someone walking around in the background (must be the one with the brains).

so thats what that flat thingy in my set is a straightener I have wondered a long time what that was called! oh that is too funny. you could hear him talk too clearly to have a shield on. thanks for the laugh Howard

I realize im a month late on this post....but something that I caught was this guy had a FIRE DEPT shirt on!!!!! Hopefully he is not a real firefighter (paid or volly)!!!!!!!!! Maybe he won it at an open house or something.....lets hope....If he is a firefighter, he hasnt done much cause he isnt dead...or maybe he was fired right away for unsafe practices.....either way, the guy is an idiot.
