Shop heater

I was just given a Sears torpedo type heater in exchange for a pen... we have similar heaters at work that we use to heat the loading dock area, but those burn diesel.

This one says to use kerosene or #1 fuel oil.

Kerosene is pretty expensive in those one gallon cans at Lowes, and I cannot locate a service station that sells it...

What is #1 fuel oil?... can't find anyone around here that has that either!

So... am I stuck using kerosene from Lowes?

Marc try and locate a petroleum distributor, (not a gas station, but the folks they buy from) #1 Fuel oil is what a lot of places up there in Yankee land use for heat, Kerosene is expensive any where you find it, Fuel Oil might be a bit cheaper.

#1 fuel oil is also known as #1 diesel. #2 diesel is the usual fuel for vehicles but #1 may be available, especially in winter.

go to a gas station truck stops have it also #1 and # 2 at the pump don't get the blended stuff though

Also you can some times get Jet A (Jet Fuel) cheaper check with an airport it is just kerosene.

If you find someplace that sells diesel fuel the stuff that does not have dye in it is #1 the stuff that has dye in it s #2 it is also called off-road diesel fuel they cant use it in trucks that run on the road it is for Farm equipment and School Buses. As someone else said #1 diesel fuel can be bought at any truck stop, I would imagine that you should be able to use off-road diesel fuel in it that is quite a bit cheaper. #1 fuel oil is about 2.399 a gallon right now just got some for the house. I have used diesel fuel in my Furnace in a pinch when ran out and couldn't get any delivered until the next day or something so it should work in the heater.

Im thinking the main difference besides dye may be smell. They are a bit smelly anyway
