not being a big gun buff, how should I go about having my Sister ship a gun to me? It is something my father left me when he pass, but I've never picked it up (we always forget when we get together).

It has special ammo, that may need to come with it, or I'd have to have it custom made here.

It is illegal to ship any type of firearm through the USPS or any shipping service. The only way to legally transfer the firearm is to have an FFL holder take care of the transport. Good luck

Take it to a gun shop or sporting goods store and they will ship it to a gun dealer near you where you can pick it up.

Both FFL holders (gun shops) will charge you a fee plus the cost of shipping.

Guns and ammo can be (and are) shipped between licensed gun dealers all the time. Usually separately, and for a fee. Any gun shop or dealer in your area will be very familiar with the process and should be able to give you a quote for the service off the top of his head. You will just have to give his phone number to your sister, and have her give it to a dealer on her end to work out the details and give her a quote for the fee at her end.

UNLESS, the firearm is considered by the BATFE to be an antique. If so, you do not need to involve FFL holders. Some firearms not considered antiques can be shipped to individuals who hold Curio and Relic FFLs (as I do) - most of which are perfectly serviceable weapons.

What is the make/model/manufacture date of the firearm. I can look it up in my reference and I should be able to tell you how it should be shipped.
