Hi Friends,

Here is one of the new pens that I made. This one is of special significance to the local Aboriginal People ( The Wongutha People) of the Eastern Goldfields. In many of the Aboriginal arts there are stories behind the art sometimes referred to as " dreamtime stories".

The Seven Sisters is an Aboriginal story from the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia about the origin of the Pleiades star cluster. The story is told by the Wongutha people, who are descended from the region's traditional custodians

  • The Seven Sisters were beautiful women who would visit Earth.

  • They were pursued by a Jakamarra man who was in love with them.

  • In an attempt to escape, the sisters turned themselves into fire and ascended into the sky.

  • The Jakamarra man followed them into the sky in the form of a star in the Orion's Belt.

  • The sisters continue to launch themselves into the sky every night, while the Jakamarra man follows them.
The story's significance
  • The story is a testament to sisterhood, resilience, and autonomy.

  • It is a central part of Aboriginal Dreaming stories and is shared through art.

  • The story is a way for Aboriginal people to explain the origins of the stars in the night sky.
Hope you enjoy this pen and the story of the seven sisters.

Cheers,
Sean

A really great pen. The story gives the pen life. It is certainly unique in the pen world. I do not see a lot of custom painted pens.

I have not done custom painting on a pen blank. It would be nice to have a bit of detail into how the blank was prepared, paint applied, and how the pen was finished.

If there are links I love to see more of this type of work.

Thanks Jim. I don't do the painting, it is done by an authentic Aboriginal Artist Tina Carmody-Elliot. She paints directly on the brass tube, I then cast it in resin and turn and finish the pen. Hope this helps. I have put up some more of these Aboriginal Functional art pens if you just look at my posts you will find a few. Thanks

Cheers,
Sean
