According to the "Guide to Recovery after heart treatment " book that I was given on leaving hospital I am at the stage where I should be increasing my social activities. So yesterday I went on the longest drive so far. The wife drove and we went to the newly acquired house of some friends. Apart from the house being so great it was its situation that really impressed me.
The house is in an "isolated development and the grounds back onto bushland reserve. It can never be built out even though it is in a very desirable area about 10 mins walk from a major shopping centre, 20 mins walk from a major hospital and 10 mins from a major arterial road. despite this the peacefullness and serenity of the place is astounding.
The trees in the reserve are lush and healthy and teeming with birdlife in particular. While I was sitting comfortably soaking up the atmosphere I was greeted by the following visitors to the yard; a couple of Butcher birds, 2 types of duck, several Crested pigeons,
a Scrub Turkey, a Willy Wagtail, several Noisy Miners, a Leatherhead (type of Honey Eater). In the bush I could hear different Warblers and Thrushes,a Whipbird and Others that my hearing and knowledge would not allow me to identify .
Should I have stayed a little longer until dusk I am sure the ranks of birds woul have increased markedly and the Flying Foxes (Fruit Bats) would have appeared along with Brushtail Possums and other creatures of the dark.
Oh that we could all live with such beauty and serenity!!

Good to hear you are able to be up and about!! What a wonderful place to live - or at least be able to visit!! We were blessed to spend a few years on 80 acres of family property here in Indiana which "housed" protected wetlands, so ... while jealous of the much more beautiful nature of your friends arrangement I can totally identify with what you experienced today. I'd give my eye teeth (get back Doc) to be able to move out into that type of environment again. . .as you indicated you would love to do. Unfortunately, around here everything is being developed. Luckily, even though they are developing the family property and the 120 acres adjoining it . . . they can't touch the areas that have been marked as protected!

Sounds just about where I live ---except it's a 20 mile drive to anything---except the corner bait shop 5 miles away.
There are several thousand acres of wet lands down here and like you said --folks would not believe the wild life that lives here. Plus we have NO neighbors.
I saw the largest Owl in my life last week---she must of been over two foot tall.

I understand how beautiful that is. I live in a paradise as well. See moose during the day, foxes, occassional bear. Then the birds. Don't know all their names, just lot's of them. Of Course the moose graze on the trees and leave you 20 lbs of poop...
