Semi Auto Unknown Wood

I like this more than I thought I would. It's a Semi Automatic Rifle pen in tactical black from PSI. It has a lot of cool details. The faux Picatinny rail and compensator on the tip. The flip up "scope" held closed with a magnet on the back end. The carrying handle/sight clip that is spring loaded. It's a click pen, but the mechanism is activated by the handle. Overall, it's a cool pen. The wood is unknown, but may be bubinga. Has some cool spalting. Overall very happy with it. The finish is Pens Plus.

I definitely agree on Bubinga. It's nice to see some good pictures of one of those for a better look at it. I still can't get past the tip/nib on it. Does it feel good in hand? Is the clip spring loaded? Most importantly, can you mount a light or laser on that picatinny rail?

That would be a very small laser! To be honest, it's not that comfortable to hold, but not for the reason you might think. The tip is four sided, with four flat areas and four "rails". For me, anyway, it would be more comfortable if it were three sided. It's hard to explain, you'd have to hold one yourself to see. It's a actually more comfortable to "choke up" on it and hold it by the body. But maybe that's just my OCD side talking. As far as looks go, I do like the tip. Ha, I spent a fair amount over at PSI already on their end of year sale. Could have easily spent a lot more, though.

I know exactly what you mean about the three sided part. It's not hard to tell why they made those pencil grips triangular back in the day. They are probably still available somewhere, but that makes for an interesting thought about pen shaping.

I brought the pen to work today and have written with it a fair bit. It's more comfortable than I expected. Also, I thought it would be top heavy, but it actually feels fairly balanced. I've decided that I really like this pen.

I like this pen so much, I decided to engrave it for myself. Kolibri is my first granddaughter (and first grandchild), and is due this month. It means hummingbird in both German and Russian. I can't wait to meet her!

Jim, regarding the engravings... I have an Ortur now with a rotary jig for engraving pens. I've been experimenting with it, and am wondering whether you engrave before, or after, you finish? I have done some engravings on blanks that were already finished, and the results were less than pleasing... The finish seemed to curl up at the edges of the engraved areas...

Thanks! I have to admit, I'm not normally a fan of unusual names. I usually prefer traditional names. But I love this one!
