Segmented Etesia

Still looking for more uniform triangles and am on jig no.3.
I thought that I would try out the new Etesia pen kit from Beaufort Ink and I like it.

The joints are tight , the pattern is excellent. I am not convinced that the bands above and below the pattern add anything to the overall character. The just don't stand out enough for me. Either jet black or a bright cream wood such as Holly might look better ?? Just a view so please don't be offended. I have not as yet tried anything this exacting so that's just " face value" opinion.

although on the round segmented one they do look stunning !

Ian, I'm not a bit offended, I appreciate all comments.
Up to now I've just been noodling about trying to get more accuracy in my cutting and don't usually put my patterns on a pen, but I wanted to try out Phil's new kit so I stuck ends on the segments. The ends of the left hand blank are cocobolo and mahogany and are exactly the same as the turned barrel, just not cleaned up too well. I think that is what you mean?

just think the round lozenged (?) pen has darker bands then the ends and it works with the rounds?

With the other first two with diamond pattern the bands seem much lighter and there's not the contrast with the mahogany. To me that doesn't work so well but it could easily be the photographs eg. I struggle to get dark grain on Wenge to show up well on camera but in real life it positively leaps out at you .

what happened ( this far) to the blanks with the fine lighter bands above the pens , cos that looks very intriguing?
