I went in for cataract surgery yesterday, and found that my weight (clothed) was 232. I have lost 20 pounds in the last couple of months - reduction in food intake and increase in disc golf playing.

The easy pounds are gone. Now I need to gain 7" in height to have a BMI of less than 25 (obese). Shoes won't do the trick. I tried to cut down on growth friction by coating my scalp with Crisco - but my wife pointed out that Crisco is shortening! I turn 48 in two weeks and would like to have a healthy weight by then.

I had one leg lengthened in 1994 by 1.5" they can go up to 4" even 6" it is called Ilizerov google it! I don't think you would want to go through what I went through. It sucked!
I had to wear the cage on my leg for 9 months and each day turn these turnbuckles one full turn to get 1/32" then the calcium builds in the break and you do it again every day! My daughter use to ask to turn my leg:)
But I did it because my back pain was unbearable having one leg shorter than the other! I think you just need to exercise and loose weight! Like me!!!!

Decrease intake; increase activity. it's the only long term way.
I've lost about 14# in the last couple of months.
After a shower last week I pulled on a pair of clean pants but I didn't bother with the belt because I was just going downstairs to get the cats in for the night. I took about four steps and my pants fell down around my ankles! I would have jumped for joy, but my pants were down around my ankles.

Slow and steady wins this race.

Chris, I've never had to worry about weight. But if I could loan you my height 6'2" you would be right in the ball park. I have heard a lot lately about it not being how much you eat but what you eat. But bottom line it's working off whatever you take in that is the only real fix. Good luck I'll be cheering for you.

Having been there before I can assure you that the only thing that works, long term, is exercise. You need to get your heart rate up and keep it up for 30-40 minutes minimum at least 4 days a week. It will take time, but it is the only way. Running, bicycling, and swimming are the best, but if you don't have good knees running isn't good. Training for a triathlon is about the best exercise you can possibly get.

I have a talking scale....

This morning it told me; "You are 20 pounds overweight, or 10 inches under tall!"

When I had to lower my cholesterol I changed my diet becuase I didn't want to take a prescription. Uh, sorry, LOML changed my diet. I Just followed the list of things that are good to eat and not good to eat. I lowered both my cholesterol and my weight. I keep both in check now by just keeping the "bad" foods to a minimum and looking at labels before buying new foods.

You really want to hear something funny?

I am 5'7", and 240 pounds (60 pounds overweight).

I am married to a licensed dietitian!

I am 5'6" and 159lbs.We are close in height.I was up to nearly 185 at one time and the doc said you gotta drop the weight. So I went on a diet, which is hard to do when your wife is 5'5" and 120lbs soaking wet.She did'nt need to diet.We started walking and eating better, the first 10lbs were easy. But after that it got really hard to lose more weight. No fast food, nothing fried and vegetables not out of a can.Slowly but surely the weight came off. After 8 months without any fast food at all I just had to have a burger. So we stopped off at a Burger King and I got me a double cheesburger and some fries. It made me sick when I ate it.You don't realize how bad the stuff is until you quit eating it for a long time.So eat better and less, walk.Worked for me.

When the LOML and I married in 1992, I was 6'1" and weighed 155 lbs... I've weighed 155 lbs since I got out of boot camp in 1960 (I weighed 133 going into boot camp).. one year after we married, I weighed 205. It's taken nearly 15 years but I'm back down to about 180 or so, but the only place I think I have lost any weight is my butt... my pants keep sliding down, even with a belt.

Chuck when I got hitched back in 74 I was 5'11" and weighed 165 pounds, But I was playing hockey 3 or 4 nights a week Now I've shrunk down to 5'10-1/2" and weigh 245Lbs. when I had my triple bypass in 02 I weighed 285, my doc says I need to drop another 20. but I know what you mean about a flat butt, my belly pushes my britches down even with a belt,
I had an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction last Thanksgiving, I undid my belt then later got up to help LOML clear the table, fortunately I was wearing skivvies which isn't always the case,

and if you have a bad back as in a degenerated L5? i lift weights but need to get on a cardio program.

I have had a permanently displaced disc between S3 and S4 since at least high school. When I lived in Denver I ran 4-5 miles every day at lunch and more on weekends. When I blew up my knees I switched to cycling and did a century ride and a 300+ mile solo bicycle camping trip over 4 mountain passes. I smoked then too. I quit smoking in June and am now getting back into cycling so I can do at least 2 century rides next year. By July I will be down to about 140-145 from my current 165.

Well, we know your weight, what's your height and activity levels?

You need to know your BMI, BMR set a caloric goal for yourself and stick to it.

SWEET!!!!! another disc golfer on the board. I am playing in a doubles tourny tomorrow. How long have you been playing?

I'm about 6'3" and 280 but thats good for a prison guard right? lol i was in the best shape of my life when I left basic training in the army. Some day I will lose about 80 or so pounds.

I heard a story that a college was doing a weight loss study with student volunteers.

The subjects were told to keep a detailed journal about what they ate.

After a month the subjects were put on a diet. The diet consisted just what they said they normally ate.

All the subjects lost weight!!!!
