Just curious if everyone knows about the secret santa going on. I found the link by accident one day and registered but had to search for it later to find it again. I was just thinking that out of 6,400 members the total would be higher then 60 participants. Does everyone know about it? It sounds like fun.

First I've heard of it......

63 out of several thousand IAP members. Not a good turn out at all, it fact it is 0.00984375% which is pitiful IMHO!

Get busy folks, this is an excellent idea and besides all that, you just never know what you might get for Christmas. At least this this way you will get something ... even if you have been a tad bit bad!

Roger that's the reason I brought this up. It sounds like fun and lots of people that visit the forum I didn't see registered.

Jason I wasn't meaning anything to you so please don't take the post like that. Is their some way to come up with a section in one of the forums like community for you to place activities in. I realize that under management on the main page, you have a thread listed with the other positions. But the layout looks like that is what the management is, not that they have sections there. I maybe alone on that but it is just my observation. Again as I said, I'm not complaining or trying to step on toes or anything at all. It's just a suggestion.

Fred thems some awful small percentages. Lets see, 21 days left, how many more people do we need to get at least 1%.

Chuck just a quick and "Unofficial" answer to your question.
You sign up to be a secret santa. you will then be given a name of someone to send a gift to. You do not let this person know you are sending them anything so you cant start asking things like "What would you like"
someone (not necessarily the person you are sending a gift to) will be sending you a gift as well.
No limit on what can be sent. and you could end up sending a gift to a foreign country.
that is pretty much it. Oh due to gifts having to be mailed your person will sooner or later know who you are and you will know who your Secret Santa was which in the tradition of SS is breaking the rules a bit. but hey we do what we can with what we have.

I'm not at all surprised.

Some people don't like participating in 'Secret Santa'. Others may have previously participated in a pen swap or secret santa and not received anything so they are hesitant to do it again.

Others, of course, may not even know about it. After all, I only learned of it from this thread. I'm sure that of the 'several thousand IAP members', few actually read all of the forum threads with any frequency.

Unfortunately only 1600 or so of the 6,000+ members are active. Should we start a pm brigade and pm every member who has not posted in - say the last 3 months and let them in on the fun.
Daniel unfortunately you are correct about finding out who your SS is, what if we ship it from a neighbors address, with their permission of course?

What a difference a day makes, we're up to 74 participants now. I thought about the finding out who your secret santa is, but couldn't find a good way that would be feasible for everyone. My responses to your suggestions are below. If you can find a way to keep your identity secret, feel free.

Always a possibility, if you can do it.

Or do not provide a return address.

As long as it works.

We could always send them all to Jason and have him forward them on.:biggrin:

Please, no, I beg you. Though I could pick and choose the best gift for myself and no one would know, hmmm.....

Honestly, this would be way too much work for anyone and way too much spent on shipping instead of on a gift.

Or do not provide a return address.

Or, when you toss your hat into the ring for the SS, include name and address, then when the coordinator assigns names.. he includes addr with the name.

But a little detective work will tell you most likely who your SS is... the packages will be postmarked and most of us have our locations in the profiles.

That's the way I'm doing it. I'm collecting all of the participants' addresses and sending them to their respective secret santa. Thank god for excel so I can program it to keep track of everything, I'd hate to keep track of all this info on paper

Hey, what we could do is on all the packages we send, put Jason's address as the return address?? Yea, with a little detective work they may figure out who sent it.

Of course, I could always send it in another package to my uncle in Indiana which I need to send something to him anyway, then he could send the prepackaged SS gift to the person receiving the gift from his address... that way the return address is 500 miles away from it's original SS address.... LOL

OK, just a little update. We're up to 82 people now but it's just a trickle of people signing up. I was hoping to get up to 100 people so if you are on the fence, here's a gentle push over to our side. Here's a link to the original thread.

Towmater brought up a good point in the original thread and I'm thinking about moving the deadline up to Nov. 23rd so I can get the matches made and out before Thanksgiving. This still gives 10 more days to sign up. Let me know if you don't like the idea.
