Cast some seashell seahawks colored pen blanks and made this from one of them for a gift. I think it came out nice :) These may be hard to turn, but easier when you run the seashells through a vacuum chamber before the pressure pot. Makes them almost totally void free, which makes finishing a lot easier!

That's gorgeous! The vacuum cleaner comment... I'd guess you're talking about what I'm picturing.
Here is some of my seashells in resin, under vacuum in my homemade vacuum chamber. You can see the foam where the bubbles are pulled out of the shells, and when I turn off the vacuum, resin will be pulled in to replace the air that was in the shells :) Then they get poured into ghe mold and put under 70 PSI for overnight, while the resin hardens. Let set for a week and then cut into blanks with a diamond blade chopsaw. Must use good filtration mask since the dust is very hard on the lungs ;)

Nicely done. I new medium has emerged. Always good to see new things. Good luck with this and this pen looks great.

Oh, chamber. Duh. That makes sense. My tired eyes saw cleaner.

Most objects we cast are porous. Stabilizing them becomes a must before casting. The air in the material must be filled with resin to avoid bubbles when casting.
