Has any one used screen printers ink in casting blanks?
At this stage I use powder paint, it works ok but no mater how much I mix it I still get lumps in it.

Not all screen printing inks are created equal. The solvent based inks may work but I definitely would not recommend the water based.

There are many types of screen printing inks. Plastisol is used on shirts along with some water based inks. Then there are lots of different types for other substrates and each use different thinners and clean up chemicals. Without knowing the makeup of each type ink, you may have a lenghthy experimental period.

Try sifting it in through a screen, that should take care of the lump issue. otherwise, add it slower and mix it in a little at a time. you can also add a little PR to the powder and mix it into a paste first, then add it to the rest of the PR.

Instead of guessing and trying all sorts of inks and pigments, why not just use pigments and dyes intended for the type of resin you are casting? I wish I had just purchased the correct pigments and colorants instead of experimenting with every thing else when I first started. Mixol tints work very well with polyester resin and I think Woodcraft has a set on clearance on their website. Good luck.
Do a good turn daily!
