He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker.
(from Cool Hand Luke)

Thanks for the memories, Paul. We'll miss you.

I always remember him from The Sting, but what most impressed me was the absolutely incredible sums of money he gave to charity through his branded food range. Something like £100 MILLION !!!!

I'm saddened hearing this, Like Lou, I'll remember him most as Cool Hand Luke.
Extremely talented and he'll be missed.

Great actor and like the great ones, he didn't have to make a fool of himself in his private life. I'll miss him as much as Steve McQueen. Are there any good one left?

Not only was he an amazing actor, but also a very generous and intelligent man. His talent and gifts will be missed by me. I really liked his acting and his generosity.

His passing was the first thing I saw on CNN this morning---and it's cast a pall on the rest of the day. If the news report was correct, since starting Newman's Own salad dressing in 1982 he's contributed approx. $250 million to charity. And to be married to the same woman for 40 years without all the scandal that surrounds so many of his peers, says much about him as a man as well as a fine actor.
Personally, my favorite movie of his was "Hombre." If you like westerns, it's worth a look-see for those who may not have seen it and like Paul Newman. In 1963 he did a movie with Edward G. Robinson and Elke Sommer called "The Prize." There's a close-up scene where Sommer nibbles and bites Newman's ear lobe.....Whew, I've never
been the same since!!
Anyway, it's good to see so many folks here who appreciated Paul Newman.
....Steve

I've had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Newman on more than a dozen occasions. When I was growing up a good friend's father was a mechanic on Bob Sharp's racing team. I've gone to Lime rock with the cars and watched him race. I've had lunch and dinner with him and the racing team. You folks are right, Mr. Newman was a "real person", He was very personable and he had a wonderful sense of humor.
