For years I have been passing a neighbor (about 9 houses away from me) with a silver maple. It is about 40 feet high and the trunk is approximately 16" diameter with a base and crotch area about 20" diameter. What is nice is that the tree has lots of burls...not quite big...just started probably (though I've seen them like that since I moved to the neighborhood 9 years ago)

Last year I told LOML that the tree looks stressed and dying but this spring it proved me wrong...it spouted ahead of other trees. About 2 weeks ago it lost all its leaves and died. I meant to talk to the owner but kept putting it off.

Yesterday, as I drive home from work, the tree is GONE!!! [:0] Even the stump was grinded to the ground! [V]

Maple is very rare around here and it is the best that I've seen locally so far. What a waste...yesterday is a sad day for me.

Chris,

I tried but the couple living there seems to be always out (house looked locked/deserted the past weeks). I used to see them tending their front yard but not lately.

I plan on taking a chance and getting the tree service co name from them...maybe I can still get the bigger pieces if I am lucky.

On my days off I cut trees with a local tree company. In the last two weeks we cut down about 15 maples. All we seem to have around me is maple. I am still looking for something worth keeping.

Chris

Thats a shame Dario, I bet you could made that tree proud. [:)] You should try and contact the tree service. I am sure those logs are just laying around wanting to be split into firewood. Who knows, if they let you dig around a little, maybe you will come up with another treasure!

Talk to your neighbor, they may still have the logs and they might not have a fireplace. If they didn't keep the wood maybe the tree service will give it up. But you must work quickly.

Been checking their house but no activity whatsoever. I really want to know which tree service they used but I think I might have lost this one.
