I use PVC pipe to do my bottle stopper molds. the way that I cap the bottom is actually embarrasing(sp) so I won't go into it. I want to do some round casting for other things, and was wondering, what are some ways of stopping the bottom. just using a PVC cap adds complications that I do not welcome into my life.

I use a piece of delrin that I've turned a tenon on. The tenon is the right size to jam-fit into the pvc pipe. I've also turned a small point in the center of the tenon. That leaves a dimple in the center of the casting which serves as a center, either for turning, or for drilling.

Regards,
Eric

I don't use a PP but, the tape should hold. There isn't any force against the tape that would make it come loose or the resin would force out the top of the mold.

I really like that idea. where is the best place to get derlin. I believe I can come up with a few other things to do with it. this will make me happy.

LOL...Dion the cap on a section of pipe creates a rather embarassing looking blank I've cast a few and I'm afraid to leave em laying around the shop for fear someone will see them!
I've been thinking about trying duct tape but wondered if the heat from curing would dissolve the glue.

Or use 80 dram medicine bottles , they have the dimple in the bottom, the PR releases great, and they are pretty cheap, my Pharmacist got me 150 bottles for 58.00 I think 10 or 15 was for freight, after 5 or 6 uses the PR starts to stick, just drill a VERY SMALL hole like a 55 or 50 and blow the stopper out, put a piece of tape on the hole and keep using it, and the will sit flat in a vacuum chamber or pressure pot.

No problem using duct tape to seal the ends of the pvc in the pressure pot. In fact that's how I do some of my bottlestopper molds. Just wish the weather up here would get consistently warm so I can do more casting!!!
