Please excuse this amazingly dumb question, but...

Someone just gave me some PR -- about 3/4 of a gallon approximately six months old -- and I've going to experiment with it. I've read articles and directions suggesting 'X' drops of hardener per ounce of PR.

Here's the question -- are the ounces meaured by volume (as per a measuring cup, measured in 8 ozs of water per cup), or by weight? Do I need to buy a scale?

Thanks
Steve

those drops are starting points. It will vary according to temp,
humidity, thickness, mold material .. there's so many variables
that you should just try it and see how it comes out.
Try it on something unimportant the first time, get the feel
of it. Change one thing and try again, see how it goes.

There's no 'written in stone' instructions because the conditions
are so variable. We find what works for us and go from there.

From someone who has used only Alumilite and wants to try PR: But is there an 'average' drops per ounce? And is it fluid ounce or weight ounce? Thanks!!

Now, as already stated, this is in my working conditions, but I cast using 3 drops per (graduated mixing cup) ounce of resin. I dont weigh mine, sometimes when casting 4oz i will add an extra drop to make the total 13 drops instead of 12, but this again comes from experience and trial and error as Charlie mentioned earlier. Your climate may also effect the end result so you really should sample with it first.

Speaking as someone who often shakes, squirts and even aims the
bottle from behind his back, I'd say it is easy to make too much of
the measuring for PR. For Alumilite it matters more. But for PR, there
is little difference in the end result between 3 'fat' drops and 3 'small'
drops. Less difference between 3 fat drops and 4 small drops.
Sometimes I use 3 drops, sometimes 5. Sometimes I just squirt
till it feels good.

LOL:biggrin: exactly!

You didn't mention the type of resin. Is it a casting resin vs. laminating resin?
You will be upset if it's a laminating resin and you load it up with catalyst.
